A COUPLE OF STROLLS

This morning, Tuesday, I will be on the road early headed back to Ohio for a two day tradeshow in 'Amish country' on Thursday and Friday.  I may not get a chance to burn calories every day this week - so I guess I 'banked' some extra calories burned on Monday.  Right after breakfast I spent 97 minutes on the elliptical machine. My 97 minutes on the elliptical machine was just the beginning. Before the day ended, I had logged 23 miles.

The day started with a 97 minute session on the elliptical machine.

My daughter had 'cheerleading' practice yesterday and the place where she practices during the summer is eight miles from home. My wife drove my daughter to practice. Before they left, I left too, on foot, to meet my daughter after practice. I figured we would take the train home. I was wrong. My daughter has definitely caught the 'walking bug' from me. Even I was surprised when she suggested that we walk home.  This was no small thing, she had just spend more than 3 hours at practice. I didn't have to think about it. I was more than happy to walk back home. I stretched the eight mile trip to ten miles to get there.  I even squeezed in another three mile walk before she was ready to leave. And when we left together, it was another ten miles before we returned home.  I walked 23 miles yesterday.  Of course, it is a dubious accomplishment. I specialize in dubious accomplishments!

It is very nice to have my daughter with me when I walk. At least when I see something interesting, I have a subject for my photo other than myself.

I FORGOT HOW MUCH ENERGY A YOUNG PERSON HAS

The past few weeks I have been crowing about my sixty minute, 90 minute and even two hour workout sessions.  Last evening I got a bit of a reality check.  I watched my daughter practice with her water polo team and the coach had 30 kids swimming non-stop for 90 minutes!  (And Monday is the short day....Tuesday's session will be for two and one half hours!)  I met my wife and daughter at the pool where practice was held and I watched my daughter swimming back and forth in the pool for a solid 45 minutes without a break!  It did get me to thinking, that maybe my workout sessions have not been quite as stupendous as I had led myself to believe!  I appears that I have forgotten just how much energy a young person has.  Still, I remain convinced that my workouts have been somewhat impressive for someone whose 58th birthday is approaching in four months.

The difference between a 57 year old man working out for  90 min and  a 13 year old girl working out for 90 min is that that girl does not have the need to blog about it to the whole world.  I am 57 and I do feel the need to brag a bit about it (at least little bit...)
