CORONA BEER STOPS PRODUCTION - CNN BUSINESS

Corona beer stops production

Updated 4:52 PM ET, Fri April 3, 2020

New York (CNN Business) — Production of Corona beer is being temporarily suspended in Mexico because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Grupo Modelo, the company that makes the beer, posted the announcement on Twitter, stating that it's halting production and marketing of its beer because the Mexican government has shuttered non-essential businesses. The Anheuser-Busch Inbev-owned company also makes Modelo and Pacifico beers.
This week, the Mexican government announced the suspension of non-essential activities in the public and private sectors until April 30 in an effort to curb the spread of the virus. The country has more than 1,500 cases and 50 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins.

Grupo Modelo is ready to enact a plan to "guarantee the supply of beer" if the Mexican government decides to include breweries as essential, according to a statement.

Constellation Brands (STZ) handles the distribution and import of Grupo Modelo's beers in the United States. CEO Bill Newlands said in an earnings call the brand has "ample supply to meet consumer demand" and doesn't expect shortages in the near term.

Corona's coincidental name with the virus hasn't dented sales. Constellation said sales of its beer brands grew 8.9% for the first three months of this year, with Modelo and Corona being its top sellers. Sales accelerated in the first three weeks of March, the company said, with its beers growing 24% compared to a year ago.
Corona Hard Seltzer, which launched in early March, is also off to a "strong start," according to a company earnings release.
Beer and other alcohol are rising in sales this month as Americans are being forced to hunker down in light of the coronavirus. Sales numbers from Nielsen (NLSN) show beer sales rose 34% year-over-year for the week ending on March 21.
--CNN's Max Ramsay and Sharif Paget contributed to this report.

YIKES! STOCK MARKET DOWN 13% ON MONDAY

I took a screen shot on 'Gas Buddy' which showed gas at a local Costco at $1.64 @ 9:38AM
I took a look at 'Gas Buddy' again less than 3 hours later and the price dropped a dime.
I took a screen shot on 'Gas Buddy' which showed gas at same Costco at $1.54 @ 12:04PM

I remember inflation.
Is this deflation?

Inflation is not particularly good.
Deflation has another set of problems.

We are in a crazy time.

DOW DOWN

Yikes! Coronavirus fears are snowballing.
Dow down 2000 points on Monday.
How come I am not walking around in fear?
Is it because I am stupid?
or smart?

Tuesday January 28

The month is coming to an end... and I keep rolling along...
Had a great meal today at Red Lobster.
.
It turns out that it is far more rewarding to sit down, eat a decent meal than go through the drive-thru at Burger King, Chick Fil A, McDonalds, Culvers, White Castle.... Wow, when I slip, I really slip!

So far this DECADE, I have had no slips!

CREATURE OF HABIT

I am an enigma to myself.
When I am eating stupidly, I get into habits, that are hard to break.

When I finally get motivated to make a change.
It takes little time for me to create new habits.

I have not bothered to stop in a restaurant to eat a meal in months.
I ain't talking about Peter Luger's Steakhouse, or Ruth's Chris...
I am talking about stopping to enjoy a meal in a place like Panera Bread.

For months and months, it was easier to buy Burger King, Taco Bell, McDonald's and a half dozen moronic places to eat.

After only 8 days, it now seems natural to carve out the half-hour and eat something a bit more normal.

I am creating new habits.

Day 6

This blog has proved time and again that it is necessary for me to keep to log my food diary.
Still I have managed to be unsuccessful with it after a period of time.
But I have never even started without it.
Long live the Blog.

Not a spectacular day, I've eaten better, definitely eaten worse

Wednesday was an all day tradeshow in Shipshewana, Indiana.  At the conclusion of that show, I packed my bags and headed to Rockford, Illinois, in order to be in place for an appointment in Pecatonica on Thursday morning.

.
It is actually surprising that I reached 10,000 steps yesterday without making an effort... I simply walked 10,000 steps living my life... walking back and forth during a tradeshow, and walking back and forth to the car to load and unload my samples.

Day 2, of the Marc Jacobs Revival

Well, I am Marc Jacobs.
And I am trying to revive my health(ier) lifestyle.
I took a 10 mile urban hike on Saturday which just about wiped me out.
So, Sunday was a day of massive inactivity.
Still, for the second day in a row...
...I kept my calorie count more in line with normal human consumption.

For the past few weeks as I have been inflating the balloon, aka my body... I have been far less successful... so progress such as it is needs to be recognized...

A bagel with cream cheese for breakfast was not the wisest choice I could have made....

But for weeks when I was not self-reporting what has been thrown down my throat - take my word for it... this was progress.

Hi, it's me. I'm back (The Central Scrutinizer, Frank Zappa)

Hi, it's me. I'm back.
You will hear this when listening to 'The Central Scrutinizer' on Joe's Garage album by Frank Zappa.
Well, this is me. And I am, indeed, back.
I have come a long way. again. backwards.

Time to refocus.
So I stepped on my scale today, Saturday, May 25, 2018 and the imaginary needle on the all-digital scale stopped at 279 lbs.

Whoopee, I am still down 30 lbs from where I started December 2013.

Time to get back on track.

THANKSGIVING 17 MILE URBAN HIKE (DAY 115)

On my drive back from Indianapolis into Chicago I noticed a new billboard advertising the Rolling Stones tour stop at Soldier Field this summer. This gave me a destination for my Thanksgiving walk. I wanted to take a picture of myself with the billboard in the background.  All I had to do was walk approximately 8 miles to get to this spot.... My entire hike was 17 miles.

ANOTHER DAY 2000 CALORIES (DAY 79)

In general, a 2000 calorie daily consumption should be very compatible with some weight loss when combined with the level of activity that I have recently maintained, that is hikes averaging 7 miles per day.  However, that level may be harder and harder to maintain as the temperature drops and it gets darker earlier and earlier. Still, 2000 calories is still not exactly overdoing it for a guy who currently weighs 235 lbs. I should try to cut back more if I want to lose more weight which I do. At some point, I am going to have to master maintenance. This is not easy.

REVISITING THE HOMER SIMPSON CALORIE CONUNDRUM

Saturday was the 41st consecutive day that I have kept my calorie consumption within the neighborhood of 1000. This 'program' has been successful. I have lost more than 30 pounds in those 41 days.... Today I look back at my own blog post from February 7, 2015 when I had first started to lose weight from a starting point of 309 lbs.

HOMER SIMPSON CALORIE CONUNDRUM
There are some people who might feel that I am eating too little.   I am in Day 15 of my new program.   My program does not have a sexy name like Paleo, Slim Fast, Biggest Loser, Atkins, South-Beach, Mediterranean, Weight-Watchers, Jenny Craig or scores of other plans.  Each one has its own book (or books) and each has its legions of followers.  My diet plan is EAT LESS.  For fourteen consecutive days I have consumed less than 1000 calories per day.   Some days I have been under 800 calories.   The small amount of literature that I have seen indicates that this might be too low.  Would it have been really helpful if I had a hot dog roll with my hot dog (+100 Calories)? Would it have been helpful if I had had ranch dressing on any of my salads (+300 Calories)? Would it have been helpful if I had had my baguette with my Turkey Chili (+100 Calories)? Would it have been helpful if I had had only one piece of cake as some kind of misguided reward (+400 Calories)?
I am convinced that my body is sending signals to me thanking me for finally giving it the fuel to operate properly.   In the past, I might have consumed 3000, 4000 or even 5000 calories per day. What nutritional benefit did the Ho Ho's, Oreos, Dunkin' Doughnuts, Klondike Bars, or M&M's provide?  Homer Simpson eats a lot of calories, but how much of what he eats is actual food?

I never ate as badly as Homer.  In my defense, it is hard to compete with a cartoon character.

Saturday in Chicago....
The day started with a great weight 252.1 lbs (down 6.3 lbs for the seven day week!)
The day included a two hour study session with my daughter in her first days of Pre-Calculus
The day also included an 11 mile urban hike...
and for the 41st consecutive day, my calorie consumption was in the neighborhood of 1000.
