ROLLING STONES LIVING IN A GHOST TOWN

The Rolling Stones release Living In a Ghost Town, first original music since 2012

Mick Jagger says new single will ‘resonate through the times we’re living in’ and references coronavirus with the lyric: ‘Life was so beautiful, then we all got locked down’

The Rolling Stones have released their first original music since 2012, a new – and rather apocalyptic – single called Living in a Ghost Town.
Mick Jagger said the band were “recording some new material before the lockdown and there was one song we thought would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now. We’ve worked on it in isolation. And here it is.”

Keith Richards said: “We cut this track well over a year ago in LA for a new album, an ongoing thing, and then shit hit the fan. Mick and I decided this one really needed to go to work right now and so here you have it.”
A moody, typically strutting track, its lyrics seem to reference the coronavirus crisis, in the lines: “Life was so beautiful / Then we all got locked down … Please let this be over / Stuck in a world without end.”
Elsewhere, Jagger sings of chaos (“Glasses were all smashing / Trumpets were all screaming”) and societal collapse:

Preachers were all preaching
Charities beseeching
Politicians dealing
Thieves were happy stealing
Widows were all weeping
There’s no beds left for us to sleep in
Always had the feeling
It would all come tumbling down.
Last Sunday, the isolated band performed together You Can’t Always Get What You Want via four separate video links for One World: Together at Home, a concert to benefit charities and the World Health Organisation, co-organised by Lady Gaga. A 79-song album version of the eight-hour event has since been released.
The Rolling Stones’ most recent original material came out as part of the 2012 best-of compilation Grrr!, which featured two new songs: Doom and Gloom, and One More Shot. They have since released an album of blues covers, Blue and Lonesome, in 2016, and another hits compilation, Honk, in 2019. Their last album of original material was 2005’s A Bigger Bang.

THANKSGIVING 17 MILE URBAN HIKE (DAY 115)

On my drive back from Indianapolis into Chicago I noticed a new billboard advertising the Rolling Stones tour stop at Soldier Field this summer. This gave me a destination for my Thanksgiving walk. I wanted to take a picture of myself with the billboard in the background.  All I had to do was walk approximately 8 miles to get to this spot.... My entire hike was 17 miles.

BLUE WAVE IS COMING (DAY 100)

It was long suspected that there would be a BLUE WAVE on election night in America on Tuesday November 6th.  It turns out, a BLUE WAVE is on the way... Lost in all the election hullabaloo over the past few days, a Rolling Stones North American Tour has been not-so-much announced, but officially teased....

Bad Eating.
No exercise.
Not a good day.
And the Democrats take over the House.
An extremely bad day.
What a stupid way to mark Day 100 since I checked in at 283.6 lbs.
Oh well....tomorrow is another day....

NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME

from wikipedia...
"Night Time Is the Right Time" is a rhythm and blues song recorded by American musician Nappy Brown in 1957. It draws on earlier blues songs and has inspired many subsequent versions, including hits by Ray CharlesRufus and Carla, and James Brown.
Yesterday, I had to leave home at 7:00AM to make a 10:00AM in Pecatonica, Illinois which is about 100 miles away. Driving in the early morning traffic, my first ten miles of that trip took about one hour. My visit with my customer concluded around 4:30PM after I had sold her buttons, and trims and fabrics from three different lines that I carry. My trip home which included a brief stop at a store to pick up some beverages outside of Cook Country to avoid the 1 cent per ounce 'sweet tax' had me arrive home a bit after 7:30PM. I had spent more than twelve hours of my waking day barely moving a muscle. If I wanted to get outdoors and take an urban hike, I would have to take inspiration from the song popularized by Ray Charles, "Night Time is the Right Time." So I did. Before eating my dinner, I scooted outside and squeezed in a 5.5 mile urban hike under the cover of darkness. I wore my headlamp to give me some extra illumination as I walked along the lakefront. Is this the same guy who went weeks this past summer without taking something as long as a three mile hike? Apparently it is. What's changed? I don't know. A welcome change, it is.

AMERICANA

Today....a public service

Former Kinks frontman Ray Davies releases his first solo album in nearly a decade today. The 15-song collection, titled Americana, is Davies’ first full-length since 2008’s Working Man’s Café. A day that sees the release of new music from Ray Davies is a good day indeed. Have a great day. I am sure that I will.

....
and if new music from Ray Davies wasn't enough.... today is also the release date of a new album from country music artist, Brad Paisley... Me?  I never heard of him before today. Apparently, there is one song on the new LOVE and WAR album, Drive of Shame, where he sings a duet with Mick Jagger. That's gotta be good! It is the year 2017 - apparently the BRITISH INVASION of music from England which began in the 1960's continues to this day.

EXHIBITIONISM IS COMING TO TOWN

Exhibitionism is an exhibit of approximately 500 Rolling Stones artifacts that originally spent some time in London before crossing the Atlantic and landing in New York City.  The next stop for Exhibitionism will be Chicago's Navy Pier. During an extraordinarily spring-like day in February, during a walk with my daughter that took us to Navy Pier we found this piece of artwork which is promoting the upcoming exhibit. I am a fan of the Rolling Stones, but I am fairly certain that I will not be checking out the exhibit. I can remember once going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and viewing old wardrobes of Mick Jagger from long gone tours just did not interest me too much. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed running into this large tongue on Navy Pier yesterday.

FALSE ALARM

Yesterday when I weighed myself, I was somewhat disgusted when the scale stopped at 230.3 lbs.  I honestly did not think that this was correct.  I knew I had had a 'bulky' dinner late on Friday night and thought that this was skewing my result.  Saturday morning, before I did anything, I weighed myself again, and this time the 'needle' rested at 228 lbs.  Much better.  Saturday's weight was a false alarm. Well...it was still an alarm... but things were not quite as bad as they seemed.  Yay.
