YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN STUPID - Bill O’Reilly

from realclearpolitics.com

You Have the Right to Remain Stupid

The vicious contagion presents perhaps the most significant personal opportunity for change in our lifetimes. That’s because the bustle has broken down. The pursuit of money, sex, power, and other magnets are all on hold. We are now apart from the daily machine that can grind us into unthinking, callous people. At least most of us are.

So, how about some introspection? Some inward evaluation. An honest appraisal of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Maybe we start with the country and then we’ll get to what’s really important- our own selves - as the country singers might say.
An essential question for me is: how did this country get so hateful? If you are following the contagion news, you know the blame game has kicked in. It’s the “Trump virus”, according to a New York Times columnist. Another far left writer in that liberal journal (it no longer meets the standards of a newspaper) says the virus is enabled by ultra-religious Christians who “deny science.” Of course, she ties that into the climate change debate as well as President Trump.
On the right, some loons accuse China of weaponizing the contagion without a shred of evidence to back up the claim.
With so much craziness available on the net, often disseminated by corporate media, the divisive atmosphere has fueled a unique kind of American loathing. Many of us actively despise those with whom we disagree.
Thus, in our newfound downtime, we might think about whether we are a part of the loathing movement and if we are, whether that is enhancing our individual lives.
And then there is “what your country can do for you.” President Kennedy rejected that sentiment but today the concept is warmly embraced by millions of Americans who firmly believe in the Bernie Sanders doctrine: that the government should provide. No need for self-reliance, that’s for fools. A vast central power structure will dictate what Americans can and cannot have. We the people are not the deciders. Bernie and his comrades would be.
It is simply incredible to me, a son of the Cold War, that socialism is on the rise in America. Perhaps during the contagion we can think hard about our individual freedoms which are under assault from the virus. Do you like being told how to live and where you can go? How about you, Democratic Party, are you embracing the restrictions we are seeing? They are obviously necessary. But they are also a vivid message. This is what can happen all the time when big government totalitarian rule.

On the social front, are you a due process denier? Do you condemn neighbors based on gossip? Are you supportive of the trend that all allegations are convictions? When Brett Kavanaugh was almost destroyed, it was an accusation, not hard facts, that brought him to the brink. One brave woman, Senator Susan Collins, saved him. Hundreds of our elected officials embraced the noose.

Finally, what about you? Do you fear the virus? Why? Are you afraid to die? Do you fear giving the contagion to people you love? Are strangers part of the equation? Do you feel for the suffering and dying? Do you pray for them? Do you pray at all?
All throughout history the world has suffered as it is suffering now. Those who see the big picture understand that dreadful plagues, wars, natural disasters, and human atrocities are all part of earthly existence.
People who accept that and learn from the viral calamity, are likely to prosper in the aftermath.
People who see themselves as victims and who lament the loss of individual pursuits, will stay in place. And, in America, we still have that right - to remain selfish and even more harshly - to remain stupid.

AMERICA NEEDS A FORMULA FOR REOPENING by Ben Shapiro

Yikes, I prepared this posting as I wanted to record this op-ed piece from Ben Shapiro.... before President Trump announced that America would basically remain closed through all of April... We are in trouble!

from Jewish World Review

America Needs a Formula for Reopening

Published March 25, 2020

This week, President Donald Trump began openly considering at what point the American government ought to take steps to reopen the American economy.
He explained: "Our country wasn't built to be shut down. America will again and soon be open for business," suggesting that the timeline will be weeks instead of months. "If it were up to the doctors," Trump said, "they'd say, 'Let's shut down the entire world.' This could create a much bigger problem than the problem that you started with." Later, Trump optimistically proclaimed that he "would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter."
Trump's projections drew fire — as do all of his statements. These statements, however, caused inordinate faux heartburn among commentators, who shouted that Trump was weighing dollars against lives and deciding in favor of dollars.
The hashtag #NotDyingForWallStreet began trending on Twitter, followed by the hashtag #DieForTheDow. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted: "My mother is not expendable. Your mother is not expendable. We will not put a dollar figure on human life. ... No one should be talking about social darwinism for the sake of the stock market." Presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden said, "I don't agree with the notion that somehow it's OK ... to let people die."

That, of course, was not Trump's suggestion. Trump was merely pointing out — quite correctly — that since the federal government has now taken the unprecedented and justifiable action of completely shutting down the American economy, to the tune of millions of lost jobs and the greatest quarterly economic decline in recorded history, we must also have a plan to end this situation.
The economy cannot remain shuttered indefinitely; the federal government cannot engage in endless cash expenditures on the basis of treasuries nobody is buying.

Nor is the economy merely Wall Street. The vast majority of those who will lose their jobs are not day traders but workers. Small companies are more likely to go under than large ones. The economy isn't an abstraction. It's the real lives of hundreds of millions of American citizens, and costs to those Americans must be weighed in the balance.
That's not controversial. That's a simple fact. Public policy is the craft of weighing risks and rewards, and policymakers do it every day. It's just that this time, the stakes are the highest they have ever been.
So, when do we reopen, and how?
The biggest problem is that we lack the data to answer the question. How many lives will be lost if we take heavy social measures after how many weeks? Moderate social measures? What will be the concomitant economic gain or loss? How many additional ICU beds and ventilators will we need to make available in order to clear the flattened curve such that we do not experience excess deaths due to lack of equipment, a la Italy?

Our goal should be to move from the Chinese model — total lockdown — to the South Korean model — heavy testing, contact investigations and social distancing. In order to accomplish that, we need to flatten the curve and stop the spread, allowing us to reset. How long will that take?
We're not going to have answers until some time passes — until we test more, until the outcomes of cases are made certain.
But we can certainly construct the formulas that should allow us to calculate possible outcomes as new data comes in, and that should allow us to collectively commit to actions directed at certain outcomes. We require a formula from the government. That's the transparency the markets need, that the American people need.
And that, at least, should be attainable over the next two weeks.

DEMOCRATIC DEBATE

Wow... what a debate on Tuesday night.
I am a Conservative Republican therefore I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Democratic Mental Midgets yelling at each other and accusing each of other of various wild crimes and indiscretions.
If you are a Democrat - my guess is that the debate may not have been very enjoyable.

BLUE WAVE IS COMING (DAY 100)

It was long suspected that there would be a BLUE WAVE on election night in America on Tuesday November 6th.  It turns out, a BLUE WAVE is on the way... Lost in all the election hullabaloo over the past few days, a Rolling Stones North American Tour has been not-so-much announced, but officially teased....

Bad Eating.
No exercise.
Not a good day.
And the Democrats take over the House.
An extremely bad day.
What a stupid way to mark Day 100 since I checked in at 283.6 lbs.
Oh well....tomorrow is another day....

MARRANOS IN AMERICA

I start today by publishing a column written by Dennis Prager who describes what it is like to be a Conservative, or Republican or certainly a Trump supporter in America today.  Oftentimes, Republicans, Conservatives and certainly Trump supporters must do so in secret. Take the time to read Prager's column below and then I will make my prediction about the special election in Alabama tonight.

Conservatives in America – Like Marranos in Medieval SpainTue, Sep 5, 2017  •  Column

For those unfamiliar with the term, Marranos was the name given to Jews in medieval Spain, especially in the fifteenth century during the Spanish Inquisition, who secretly maintained their Judaism while living as Catholics in public.
There is, of course, no Spanish Inquisition in America today – no one is being tortured into confessing what they really believe, and no one is being burned at the stake. But there are millions of Marrano-like Americans: Americans who hold conservative views – especially those who hold to conservative positions on social issues and those who voted for Donald Trump for president.
Millions of Americans who hold conservative and/or pro-Trump views rationally fear being ostracized by their peers, public humiliation, ruined reputations, broken families, losing their job, and being unable to work in their field. Under these circumstances, they have decided that coming out as conservative or pro-Trump is not worth the persecution they would.
In terms of the percentage of the population affected, there is no parallel in American history. Coming out as a homosexual prior to the 1960s-70s, or publicly announcing that one was member of the Communist Party in the 1950s would have often led to similar dire consequences in one’s social, work and family life. But gays and Communist Party members comprised a tiny percentage of the American population. And one of them, Communists, supported true evil.
I wish I could share all the emails sent to me from professional musicians who play in some of the premier orchestras of America. They wrote to me following the nationally publicized attempts by left-wing members of the orchestra and of the Santa Monica city government to prevent me from conducting: they publicly called on members of the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra to refuse to play, and members of the public to refuse to attend, when I conducted a Haydn symphony at the Walt Disney Concert Hall three weeks ago.
These emails were written to encourage me, and to tell me how they are compelled to hide their conservative views – how they live, in effect, as Marranos.
A violist with one of the most prestigious orchestras in the country (I figured out which orchestra using the Internet; she was afraid to tell even me) wrote to me last week about how quiet she is about her conservatism. While she could not be fired for it, she said, she would be socially ostracized within the orchestra with which she has played for decades.
Another middle-aged professional musician told me that he wears his hair very long in order to appear hippie-like as a decoy to camouflage his conservative politics. He is no more likely to tell fellow musicians that he supports President Trump than a Marrano in medieval Spain would have gone public with his Jewish beliefs.
And here’s part of an email to me from a musician in Minnesota: “I was a professional musician from the age of 17. I wanted you to know that I, too, lost my career because of my views. My choice, actually; I just could no longer take the abuse.”
I’m fortunate. As a radio talk-show host and columnist, I’m paid to express my opinions. And as to my avocation of conducting orchestras, I’m lucky there, too. Because the permanent conductor of the Santa Monica Symphony and the orchestra’s board remained principled, and because so many people support me and my values, the efforts to thwart me failed. Disney Hall, all 2,000-plus seats, was sold out – a first for a community orchestra in that venue.
Of course, American conservative Marranos don’t only live in the world of music. They are in every profession. We know about the high-profile cases, the conservatives whose careers have been ruined by saying the “wrong” thing or supporting the “wrong” candidate or ballot proposition; we know about the conservative speakers who have been physically attacked and prevented from speaking on college campuses. But we don’t know about the millions who are just afraid to speak up, who remain silent in a business meeting or at a dinner party when someone casually expresses a view that they strongly disagree with. These Americans live in fear, legitimately so in many cases, that if they do speak out, there will be severe consequences – a job lost, a promotion not given, even a child who will no longer speak to them.
This is all new in our country.
Had anyone ever predicted that in America – the land renowned more than any other for liberty and free speech – the word “Marrano” would ever accurately characterize any of its citizens, let alone close to half the voting population, that individual would have been regarded as a charlatan.
But, given the intolerance and hatred on the left and its dominance over almost every area of American life, such an individual would have been a prophet.

The polls trying to predict the outcome of the special senatorial election in Alabama are all over the map. What kind of lunatic pro-Moore supporter would publicly admit it? I predict he wins big. I could care less if he is driven out of the Senate once elected by an ethics committee. The job of Republicans, Conservatives and Pro-Trump supporters is to keep the Senate seat out of the hands of a leftist Democrat. Why is the logic of this choice so difficult?  I predict that when the votes are counted, we will learn that the decision was not difficult at all. THE MARRANOS IN ALABAMA WILL VOTE FOR THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE. See you tomorrow. I will be either pleased that my prediction was correct or I will be busy wiping egg off my face. Either way, I will be here.

THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Yesterday my alarm started blaring at 5:00AM. by 6:00AM, I was on the road on the way to Goshen, Indiana. I returned in the late afternoon, with enough time to walk over to the local stadium where my daughter's high school team was playing football. My daughter is a cheerleader. So, for us in Chicago, it was 'Thursday Night Lights.' The infection in the NFL of players disrespecting the National Anthem and the American Flag, as has been well documented, has spread to high schools all across the United States. My daughter's school is not immune. Four morons on the football team took a knee, and scores of students couldn't be bothered to stand for the National Anthem. Apparently, the coach of the Cheerleading squad informed the girls that that behavior was not to be tolerated. Finally, someone in charge of kids, shows some leadership skills and exerts their authority as they should. Yeah, Thursday Night Lights ain't what it used to be in America. It is maddening and it is sad.

Speaking of sports... How about those New York Yankees? They were down two games to none in a best of five series against the Cleveland Indians. They won three games in a row, and they have progressed to the American League Championship Series. Way to go, Yankees!

INAUGURATION DAY YESTERDAY

Yesterday the 45th President of the United States of America was inaugurated. The direction of the country has been spun around a full 180°.  Lefties everywhere are going nuts. Righties, like me, everywhere are celebrating. OK, Mr. President, now the real work begins. You have made a believer out of me. I actually think that you are going to try to be a different type of leader and that you really care about being judged by your accomplishments, not by your soaring rhetoric. This is good, because soaring rhetoric is not your strong point. You are known for speaking clearly. Right on cue, the lefties all dismissed your inaugural speech. Me? I loved it. No soaring rhetoric. Just plain spoken words. Words that can be understood by everyone (except over-educated, indoctrinated, mind-numbed robots in the universities). Still today, I am talking about a different inauguration.

Today, I am going to re-inaugurate the healthier lifestyle which I professed to discover a couple of years ago and have turned away from over the past days, weeks and months. I weighed myself today and I checked in at 244 lbs. (Yes, I can even now, still take some solace as I remember that I used to be 309 lbs.) This rationalization is becoming harder and harder to mollify myself. In fact, it no longer can mollify me at all. I am disgusted with myself.  Today I am inaugurating a return to a time when every decision made to stick something in my mouth, is carefully considered.  I do not intend to return to the 1000 calorie days of two years ago, but I will try to keep the calorie count under 2000. Just as the voters turned the country around by electing Donald Trump, my mind is going to turn myself around by electing to be a bit smarter in my dietary choices. This starts now. Today.  That was my inaugural day speech.

INAUGURATION DAY TODAY

Our long national nightmare ends within a few short hours at high noon today in Washington, D.C when the 45th President of the United States in sworn in as President. His supporters, like me, are thrilled. His detractors are already infected with TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) and since this is just another symptom of leftism, they are likely incurable.  Although the forecast in Washington, D.C. today predicts cloudy skies and rain, I see sunny days ahead for the United States of America. It is time to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.
