YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN STUPID - Bill O’Reilly

from realclearpolitics.com

You Have the Right to Remain Stupid

The vicious contagion presents perhaps the most significant personal opportunity for change in our lifetimes. That’s because the bustle has broken down. The pursuit of money, sex, power, and other magnets are all on hold. We are now apart from the daily machine that can grind us into unthinking, callous people. At least most of us are.

So, how about some introspection? Some inward evaluation. An honest appraisal of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Maybe we start with the country and then we’ll get to what’s really important- our own selves - as the country singers might say.
An essential question for me is: how did this country get so hateful? If you are following the contagion news, you know the blame game has kicked in. It’s the “Trump virus”, according to a New York Times columnist. Another far left writer in that liberal journal (it no longer meets the standards of a newspaper) says the virus is enabled by ultra-religious Christians who “deny science.” Of course, she ties that into the climate change debate as well as President Trump.
On the right, some loons accuse China of weaponizing the contagion without a shred of evidence to back up the claim.
With so much craziness available on the net, often disseminated by corporate media, the divisive atmosphere has fueled a unique kind of American loathing. Many of us actively despise those with whom we disagree.
Thus, in our newfound downtime, we might think about whether we are a part of the loathing movement and if we are, whether that is enhancing our individual lives.
And then there is “what your country can do for you.” President Kennedy rejected that sentiment but today the concept is warmly embraced by millions of Americans who firmly believe in the Bernie Sanders doctrine: that the government should provide. No need for self-reliance, that’s for fools. A vast central power structure will dictate what Americans can and cannot have. We the people are not the deciders. Bernie and his comrades would be.
It is simply incredible to me, a son of the Cold War, that socialism is on the rise in America. Perhaps during the contagion we can think hard about our individual freedoms which are under assault from the virus. Do you like being told how to live and where you can go? How about you, Democratic Party, are you embracing the restrictions we are seeing? They are obviously necessary. But they are also a vivid message. This is what can happen all the time when big government totalitarian rule.

On the social front, are you a due process denier? Do you condemn neighbors based on gossip? Are you supportive of the trend that all allegations are convictions? When Brett Kavanaugh was almost destroyed, it was an accusation, not hard facts, that brought him to the brink. One brave woman, Senator Susan Collins, saved him. Hundreds of our elected officials embraced the noose.

Finally, what about you? Do you fear the virus? Why? Are you afraid to die? Do you fear giving the contagion to people you love? Are strangers part of the equation? Do you feel for the suffering and dying? Do you pray for them? Do you pray at all?
All throughout history the world has suffered as it is suffering now. Those who see the big picture understand that dreadful plagues, wars, natural disasters, and human atrocities are all part of earthly existence.
People who accept that and learn from the viral calamity, are likely to prosper in the aftermath.
People who see themselves as victims and who lament the loss of individual pursuits, will stay in place. And, in America, we still have that right - to remain selfish and even more harshly - to remain stupid.

The O'Really Factor

America has been digesting the news all week that cable powerhouse, Bill O'Reilly, has been fired from FOX NEWS, after stories of huge out-of-court payouts were reported by The New York Times for sexual misconduct charges by various women over the past 15 years. Under pressure from lefty groups, virtually all advertisers dropped the program. There can be no commercial broadcast of a TV show without commercials. Once this happened the show was doomed. Just think back to all the millions of people who abandoned Bill Clinton when very serious charges of sexual misconduct were made against him. If you are having difficulty remembering that period, it is likely because that didn't happen. Liberals do not care what lefty progressives say or do as long as they vote the right way. Yes, I know, Anthony Weiner was the exception. Even he was too much for everybody - the second time.

Back to O'Reilly. The lefty progressive liberals are celebrating across America. I am not sure why. How does this change in anchors at FOX NEWS at 8:00PM Eastern Time change America? I did mostly enjoy watching O'Reilly over these past two decades. He surely was not a standard right wing conservative. He used to drive me nuts on occasion. He was happy to climb aboard the liberal progressive bandwagon when he blamed the 'evil' big oil companies for the rising prices at the gas pumps years ago. Apparently, the basics of Supply and Demand are not taught at Harvard where O'Reilly went to school. It is interesting to note that during the presidency of Barack Obama, gas prices fell quite a bit. Was this because of policies enacted by Obama? No, of course not. It was in spite of policies enacted by Barack Obama. I believe that the increasing levels of fracking and huge discoveries of natural gas led to energy price collapses around the world. ExxonMobil does not control the price of gasoline, in the same way that APPLE controls the price of an iPhone.  Liberal Bill O'Reilly did not understand that. Nevertheless, Bill O'Reilly did mostly appear to be conservative in his views and he was the face of FOX NEWS for 20 years. Since the lefty liberals hated FOX NEWS, they naturally hated Bill O'Reilly. Now O'Reilly is gone. Will FOX NEWS likewise disappear? You think so?  O'Really?

BILL MAZEROSKI

The 'fallout' from the shocking (happily shocking) election result in the United States less than two weeks ago continues. The 'tolerant' (actually intolerant) lefty liberal progressive nut-jobs are going absolutely bonkers. An American comedian, Dennis Miller, summed it up nicely last night on The O'Reilly Factor on Fox News.

"I didn't know that it would be this delish [delicious]. Every day as I watch them unfold on the left, it's like Bill Mazeroski hits his homer in the 9th inning like ten times per day. It's beautiful."

from wikipedia...
In the 1960 World Series, Mazeroski won the title for Pittsburgh in Game 7 with a game-winning home run off New York Yankees pitcher Ralph Terry in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Yankees had rallied with two runs to tie the game, 9-9, in the top of the inning, setting up Mazeroski's heroics.

Now it is clear from this quote, that in order to get its true meaning, one has to know that Dennis Miller apparently was rooting against the Yankees. So, if one understands that, then I must admit that I am in complete agreement with Dennis Miller. The more the loony liberal lefty nut-jobs act out, freak out and otherwise sense the end of the world - the happier I am each an every day. Like Miller, I thought it would be good, but it is better than good. It's Great!

Yesterday included lots of travel. I started my day in Cincinnati and drove to Archbold, Ohio to visit a quilt shop in Sauder Village for the first time. After selling some fabric and making a new friend, I headed northeast into Ann Arbor, Michigan to get myself in place for a appointment to sell buttons on Thursday morning.  I arrived in Ann Arbor about 45 minutes prior to sundown. I quickly changed and set out from my hotel in order to get an urban hike under my belt which seemed 'critical' to me as I had skipped the day before. Most of my hike was in darkness. Armed with my Iprotec 500 lumen flashlight, I was able to continue until I had logged an 8 mile hike. I usually prefer to hike 10 miles, but I admit the hiking was less enjoyable in the darkness.

Sauder Village: Who We Are

Sauder Village is a nonprofit organization, home of Ohio’s largest living-history museum. The 235-acre complex offers a complement of food, lodging and retail services, making it an ideal destination for families, groups, small conferences and special events.
We are different than most organizations thanks to the original passion and dream of our founder, Erie Sauder who was a visionary leader. Erie established Sauder Village in 1976, not just to preserve the “things” from history, but more importantly to share the “stories” of every day people of the past. His respect and appreciation for his ancestors translated into a passion to ensure that people, and most specifically children, realize the ingenuity, hard work, sacrifice, and determination of those who came before us — and ultimately to inspire that same pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit in their lives today in hopes that they strive to make a positive difference in their world. This continues to serve as our core purpose.
