WORLD'S GREATEST OUTDOOR MURAL

It is established fact that The Rolling Stones are the World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band. Right? Right. Therefore, The Rolling Stones Tongue Logo painted on the side of a building is clearly the World's Greatest Outdoor Art Mural. Right? Well, it certainly is my most favorite mural that I have discovered in Chicago.

.

.
The mural is painted on a new restaurant that just opened in Chicago. Pop's Beef - Old Town,   It does seem a bit ridiculous that this artwork is hovering over a dumpster. Don't you agree?

I have been casually rooting for the Houston Astros in the World Series as they have been battling the Los Angles Dodgers. My Father, long ago, taught me that as a New York Yankee fan, it is my 'obligation' to support the American League team in the Series.  Besides, how hard is it to root against the Los Angeles Dodgers? In recent years, I have become so disconnected from Major League Baseball, that I don't think I really was aware that Houston had switched into the American League. I became well aware of this fact, when they beat the Yanks for the American League Championship. When the last pitch was thrown around midnight, the Houston Astros were still standing. The final score was 5-1. In essence, the winning run scored about 5 minutes after the game started. Houston is rebuilding after the horrific hurricane that dropped 50" of rain everywhere. The World Series win is going to be a positive development for this city.

WHAT A GAME!

While I have been busy with my tradeshow in Houston, a rather exciting World Series has been taking place in the city. Game 5, with the series tied 2-2 took place on Sunday night (and into early Monday morning!) There was no possible way to turn off the TV and go to sleep as long as Houston and Los Angeles were playing one of the most high scoring games in World Series history. The game finally ended early Monday morning with the Astros on top,  13-12 in the bottom of the 10th inning after five hours and seventeen minutes.  What a game!

My Sunday (which ended early Monday morning) when the World Series Game 5 finally concluded, started with a 10 mile urban hike in Houston, at 5:15AM

BILL MAZEROSKI

The 'fallout' from the shocking (happily shocking) election result in the United States less than two weeks ago continues. The 'tolerant' (actually intolerant) lefty liberal progressive nut-jobs are going absolutely bonkers. An American comedian, Dennis Miller, summed it up nicely last night on The O'Reilly Factor on Fox News.

"I didn't know that it would be this delish [delicious]. Every day as I watch them unfold on the left, it's like Bill Mazeroski hits his homer in the 9th inning like ten times per day. It's beautiful."

from wikipedia...
In the 1960 World Series, Mazeroski won the title for Pittsburgh in Game 7 with a game-winning home run off New York Yankees pitcher Ralph Terry in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Yankees had rallied with two runs to tie the game, 9-9, in the top of the inning, setting up Mazeroski's heroics.

Now it is clear from this quote, that in order to get its true meaning, one has to know that Dennis Miller apparently was rooting against the Yankees. So, if one understands that, then I must admit that I am in complete agreement with Dennis Miller. The more the loony liberal lefty nut-jobs act out, freak out and otherwise sense the end of the world - the happier I am each an every day. Like Miller, I thought it would be good, but it is better than good. It's Great!

Yesterday included lots of travel. I started my day in Cincinnati and drove to Archbold, Ohio to visit a quilt shop in Sauder Village for the first time. After selling some fabric and making a new friend, I headed northeast into Ann Arbor, Michigan to get myself in place for a appointment to sell buttons on Thursday morning.  I arrived in Ann Arbor about 45 minutes prior to sundown. I quickly changed and set out from my hotel in order to get an urban hike under my belt which seemed 'critical' to me as I had skipped the day before. Most of my hike was in darkness. Armed with my Iprotec 500 lumen flashlight, I was able to continue until I had logged an 8 mile hike. I usually prefer to hike 10 miles, but I admit the hiking was less enjoyable in the darkness.

Sauder Village: Who We Are

Sauder Village is a nonprofit organization, home of Ohio’s largest living-history museum. The 235-acre complex offers a complement of food, lodging and retail services, making it an ideal destination for families, groups, small conferences and special events.
We are different than most organizations thanks to the original passion and dream of our founder, Erie Sauder who was a visionary leader. Erie established Sauder Village in 1976, not just to preserve the “things” from history, but more importantly to share the “stories” of every day people of the past. His respect and appreciation for his ancestors translated into a passion to ensure that people, and most specifically children, realize the ingenuity, hard work, sacrifice, and determination of those who came before us — and ultimately to inspire that same pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit in their lives today in hopes that they strive to make a positive difference in their world. This continues to serve as our core purpose.

WRIGLEY FIELD

Perhaps you have heard about all the emotional tributes written in colorful chalk on the bricks that are on the outside of Wrigley Field. Apparently this is a new tradition. On Sunday morning, I walked over to Wrigley Field as I wanted a photo of myself in front of the World Champions Marquee sign in front of the building. The most popular spot to take a photo in front of the chalk messages was the photo that I am posting below. WE DID NOT SUCK 2016. Perhaps not the most inspiring message ever written, but for Cubs fans, it seemed to resonate with a lot of people. There must have been at least 3000 people milling about the stadium on Sunday morning, doing precisely what I was doing, taking photographs.

.
The walk to Wrigley Field from my home is just under 4 miles. My urban hikes tend to be closer to ten miles when the time permits and the weather is cooperative. Sunday morning, was such a day. The extra hour of sleep allowed for an early start after lounging around a bit in the morning. By the time my Wrigley Field urban hike was completed, I had logged 13 miles. Always an excellent way to start a day.

Cubs Fans Begin New Tradition Writing Emotional Tribute Messages On Wrigley Wall

October 31, 2016 4:53 PM By Vince Gerasole
.
CHICAGO (CBS) —  A new tradition is underway at Wrigley Field. Normally, in front of the ballpark at the Clark and Addison intersection, you’ll see fans screaming, “Go Cubs!” But on the other side of the ballpark, a quieter and unexpectedly emotional tribute to the Cubs is taking form. Letter by letter and brick by brick, with colored chalk, fans are leaving their mark. “I am putting ‘finish strong’ because that’s what needs to happen,” resident Eric Pitts says.“I am dedicating it to all my grandparents,” Edgewater resident Sam Barnes says. “I am trying not to chock up, honestly, because I remember growing up watching the games with them. “It’s impressive. It just happened naturally,” Pitts says of the new tradition. Now overnight, the Sheffield [and Waveland] side of Wrigley has turned into one emotional place. “Baseball and family. That’s what it’s all about,” Pitts said. And more often than not, it’s what they’re writing about.“We got a ‘Bobbo’ here with hearts and arrows,” fan and West Dundee resident Julie Spindler says. The Korean War kept her dad from playing with the Cubs. “I just know he’s here,” she says. Beside a brick wall, she feels his embrace. The love and the energy coming from the building; it’s not just the wall it’s the building. And somehow, in spite of all the celebrations, a quiet side of Wrigley, Monday, is speaking volumes.“If these walls could talk and now they kind of sort of are,” one fan says. The wall is growing at such a spontaneous pace that the Cubs tell us they haven’t had a chance to take it all in yet. But you can if you take a stroll down Sheffield [or Waveland].
