YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN STUPID - Bill O’Reilly

from realclearpolitics.com

You Have the Right to Remain Stupid

The vicious contagion presents perhaps the most significant personal opportunity for change in our lifetimes. That’s because the bustle has broken down. The pursuit of money, sex, power, and other magnets are all on hold. We are now apart from the daily machine that can grind us into unthinking, callous people. At least most of us are.

So, how about some introspection? Some inward evaluation. An honest appraisal of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Maybe we start with the country and then we’ll get to what’s really important- our own selves - as the country singers might say.
An essential question for me is: how did this country get so hateful? If you are following the contagion news, you know the blame game has kicked in. It’s the “Trump virus”, according to a New York Times columnist. Another far left writer in that liberal journal (it no longer meets the standards of a newspaper) says the virus is enabled by ultra-religious Christians who “deny science.” Of course, she ties that into the climate change debate as well as President Trump.
On the right, some loons accuse China of weaponizing the contagion without a shred of evidence to back up the claim.
With so much craziness available on the net, often disseminated by corporate media, the divisive atmosphere has fueled a unique kind of American loathing. Many of us actively despise those with whom we disagree.
Thus, in our newfound downtime, we might think about whether we are a part of the loathing movement and if we are, whether that is enhancing our individual lives.
And then there is “what your country can do for you.” President Kennedy rejected that sentiment but today the concept is warmly embraced by millions of Americans who firmly believe in the Bernie Sanders doctrine: that the government should provide. No need for self-reliance, that’s for fools. A vast central power structure will dictate what Americans can and cannot have. We the people are not the deciders. Bernie and his comrades would be.
It is simply incredible to me, a son of the Cold War, that socialism is on the rise in America. Perhaps during the contagion we can think hard about our individual freedoms which are under assault from the virus. Do you like being told how to live and where you can go? How about you, Democratic Party, are you embracing the restrictions we are seeing? They are obviously necessary. But they are also a vivid message. This is what can happen all the time when big government totalitarian rule.

On the social front, are you a due process denier? Do you condemn neighbors based on gossip? Are you supportive of the trend that all allegations are convictions? When Brett Kavanaugh was almost destroyed, it was an accusation, not hard facts, that brought him to the brink. One brave woman, Senator Susan Collins, saved him. Hundreds of our elected officials embraced the noose.

Finally, what about you? Do you fear the virus? Why? Are you afraid to die? Do you fear giving the contagion to people you love? Are strangers part of the equation? Do you feel for the suffering and dying? Do you pray for them? Do you pray at all?
All throughout history the world has suffered as it is suffering now. Those who see the big picture understand that dreadful plagues, wars, natural disasters, and human atrocities are all part of earthly existence.
People who accept that and learn from the viral calamity, are likely to prosper in the aftermath.
People who see themselves as victims and who lament the loss of individual pursuits, will stay in place. And, in America, we still have that right - to remain selfish and even more harshly - to remain stupid.

The O'Really Factor

America has been digesting the news all week that cable powerhouse, Bill O'Reilly, has been fired from FOX NEWS, after stories of huge out-of-court payouts were reported by The New York Times for sexual misconduct charges by various women over the past 15 years. Under pressure from lefty groups, virtually all advertisers dropped the program. There can be no commercial broadcast of a TV show without commercials. Once this happened the show was doomed. Just think back to all the millions of people who abandoned Bill Clinton when very serious charges of sexual misconduct were made against him. If you are having difficulty remembering that period, it is likely because that didn't happen. Liberals do not care what lefty progressives say or do as long as they vote the right way. Yes, I know, Anthony Weiner was the exception. Even he was too much for everybody - the second time.

Back to O'Reilly. The lefty progressive liberals are celebrating across America. I am not sure why. How does this change in anchors at FOX NEWS at 8:00PM Eastern Time change America? I did mostly enjoy watching O'Reilly over these past two decades. He surely was not a standard right wing conservative. He used to drive me nuts on occasion. He was happy to climb aboard the liberal progressive bandwagon when he blamed the 'evil' big oil companies for the rising prices at the gas pumps years ago. Apparently, the basics of Supply and Demand are not taught at Harvard where O'Reilly went to school. It is interesting to note that during the presidency of Barack Obama, gas prices fell quite a bit. Was this because of policies enacted by Obama? No, of course not. It was in spite of policies enacted by Barack Obama. I believe that the increasing levels of fracking and huge discoveries of natural gas led to energy price collapses around the world. ExxonMobil does not control the price of gasoline, in the same way that APPLE controls the price of an iPhone.  Liberal Bill O'Reilly did not understand that. Nevertheless, Bill O'Reilly did mostly appear to be conservative in his views and he was the face of FOX NEWS for 20 years. Since the lefty liberals hated FOX NEWS, they naturally hated Bill O'Reilly. Now O'Reilly is gone. Will FOX NEWS likewise disappear? You think so?  O'Really?

FAKE NEWS or FARKAS NEWS?

This story is just breaking within the past day or so... and so far, the so-called mainstream media has ignored it. News that does not fit their agenda has a way of being buried. I am not sure that I completely understand what the Farkas is going on here... but just in case this story starts to spawn legs... you might remember, that you heard about it (through Sean Hannity) here first.

.
as reported by Sean Hannity....
President Trump was ridiculed by the alt-left, propaganda, destroy-Trump media when he said on Twitter that members of his transition team had been wiretapped by the Obama administration. But a damning video clip from just days before Trump’s tweet appears to vindicate the commander in chief. In a March 2 MSNBC interview, former Obama administration official Evelyn Farkas pretty much admitted that there was an all-out effort to gather and leak as much “intel” on Trump as possible ahead of the transition to Trump. Farkas served in the Obama administration from 2012 through 2015 as the deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia. “I was urging my former colleagues, and frankly speaking, the people on the Hill -- it was more actually aimed at telling the Hill people,” Farkas said. "’Get as much information as you can, get as much intelligence as you can before President Obama leaves the administration,’ because I had a fear that, somehow, that information would disappear with the senior people who left.”

In an admission that went unnoticed, partly because it came prior to Trump’s tweet and largely because it was made on MSNBC, Farkas continued. “So it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy that the Trump folks, if they found out how we knew what we knew about their -- the staff, the Trump staff's dealing with Russians, that they would try to compromise those sources and methods, meaning we would no longer have access to that intelligence,” she said. “So I became very worried because not enough was coming out into the open, and I knew that there was more. We have very good intelligence on Russia. So then I had talked to some of my former colleagues, and I knew that they were trying to also help get information to the Hill." This is very, very important. Farkas is admitting surveillance of Trump and his associates took place. She is admitting intelligence leaking took place. Surveillance, unmasking of Americans swept up in foreign spying and intelligence leaking are all acknowledged on the video. For weeks, I have been asking who from the Obama administration knew what and when did they know it? Now we learn that Evelyn Farkas, a relatively low-ranking Obama administration official, knew about all this surveillance. She couldn’t have been alone. On my television and radio programs, I have highlighted the fine reporting on this story by Sara Carter and John Solomon of Circa News. They uncovered the existence of an FBI investigation into a server that was being utilized by Trump Tower, which is where Trump’s campaign headquarters was located. They also discovered a warrant issued by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court that allowed federal officials to capture Trump team communications. This took place before the president took office. Now, a newly unearthed video shows officials with direct access to President Obama had access to unmasked federal surveillance of the Trump transition team, and may have briefed President Obama himself about the information they were collecting on then President-elect Trump. This Farkas interview will not be the last shoe to drop as the story continues to unravel. Little by little, it will come out and the American people will get answers to some very important – and troubling – questions.

FAKE NEWS

There has been a lot of talk in the media recently about fake news.

Apparently fake news is what propelled Donald Trump to the Presidency. Can there be a more humorous theory? Fake news is not new. Fake News is mostly what is reported by the mainstream media each and every day. This is why people are increasingly turning away from newspapers and broadcast television. The clout of these fake news operations is diminishing. We all know that Hillary Clinton was promoted by the media. Let me give an example from 2008 which will show what an absolutely phone, fake liar Hillary Clinton is and was and how this was underreported. It was fake news to report this as fact and and continued to be fake news to NOT report the lie. Can you imagine if a liar, so confused by reality, that she could not remember if she landed in a foreign country under active sniper fire? Perhaps she was thinking about a trip when she landed in Chicago.

"I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

This quote from Hillary Clinton refers to her landing in Bosnia in 1996. This was a complete lie. This was a complete fabrication. It was similar to the paragon of virtue, Brian Williams, the disgraced NBC-TV news anchor who spoke of being in New Orleans French Quarter during Hurricane Katrina and watching a dead body float past him by his hotel. Only problem with this fake news, is that there was no flooding anywhere near his hotel. Brian Williams did lose his job as anchor of NBC - but he is still employed by MSNBC and continues to report fake new for the dozens of morons who still get their news from that outlet.

FAKE NEWS DID NOT INSTALL DONALD TRUMP INTO THE WHITE HOUSE.
DONALD TRUMP IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE DESPITE FAKE NEWS.

HOW BEER COULD HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS

This was the title of an article that I saw yesterday posted by Fox News. Fox News was once a news outlet known as the home of a politically conservative viewpoint. This was long before that network became the personal publicist for the Trump campaign.  As an actual conservative, I have found that network to become a sad excuse for news. The biggest disappointment has been Sean Hannity who daily sucks up to Trump  with more vigor than a supercharged Dyson Vacuum.  Uh... I think I may have gotten off topic... Back to the Beer....

One thing most of us learn early in life is that writers of newspaper articles are NOT the authors of the headlines. Headlines are meant to attract readers - not necessarily to impart important information regarding the content of the copy. Here's an example: HOW BEER COULD HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS
.
I have copied the complete story below which was written by Brittany Anas and originally published in Men's Journal.
When it comes to health benefits and alcohol, antioxidant-rich red wine is usually the drink drawing all the praise. But beer — carbs and calories notwithstanding — also has its upsides, with studies showing the beverage can help prevent kidney stones, strengthen bones, and aid your digestive system.
Expand / Contra
Now, scientists have discovered another health advantage in your brew: A compound called xanthohumol, a flavonoid naturally found in hops, can be a boon for weight loss and may help scientists create a novel approach to addressing obesity. Tests have also shown xanthohumol can lower cholesterol and blood-sugar levels.
No, drinking beer won’t help you lose weight. A pint of IPA (India Pal Ale) contains only 0.0757 mg of xanthohumol, says Cristobal Miranda, a research assistant professor with Oregon State University’s Linus Pauling Institute and lead author of the study, published in a special issue of Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics.
To derive any benefits of xanthohumol from beer, you’d have to do the impossible and guzzle 3,500 pints per day. But, researchers say, in the future, a concentrated amount of xanthohumol could be packed into a supplement and taken once a day. The supplement could be a low-cost and effective treatment for metabolic syndrome, the set of factors that increase your risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and other health problems. About one in three Americans have metabolic syndrome, estimates the American Heart Association, so this could be a welcome innovation.
Studies on the health benefits of xanthohumol so far have been carried out in laboratory animals and in cell culture, Miranda says. The results have shown the compound holds promise, potentially reducing risk of cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes. Before we know its safety and real efficacy for fighting obesity and more, though, studies will have to be conducted on humans.
For the study, lab mice were fed a high-fat diet and given varying levels of xanthohumol. The rats given the highest dosage of xanthohumol cut their LDL or “bad cholesterol” by 80 percent and their insulin levels by 42 percent. Their levels of IL-6, a biomarker of inflammation, was reduced by 78 percent. The lab animals were all fed the same rich diet and given the same amounts of food, leading them to gain weight.
But weight gain was 22 percent less in the mice receiving xanthohumol in their diets.
Researchers have long been interested in the health benefits of flavonoids, exploring the compounds found in tea, garlic, chocolate, apples, blueberries, and other foods. Miranda says xanthohumol found in hops is unique because of its potential to address so many health problems, and to do so dramatically.
Xanthohumol is only found in the hop plant, and is not naturally present in any other plant, Miranda says. Any product like beer, hop tea, or a beverage or dietary supplement in which hops, or hop extracts, are used may contain xanthohumol, he says.
For now, we'll hang tight until we can apply for a human beer-drinking trial.
.
Here is the bottom line on this report... There is apparently a trace compound in beer that can assist with controlling metabolism - but actually drinking beer will NOT help anyone lose weight.  Now or ever. My recommendation would be to drink as little beer as possible if one is trying to control one's weight.

This is my calm before the storm.  Today is Thursday. Tomorrow morning, at 6:00AM Central Time I will be under the care of my surgeon who will be repairing my hernia.  Since I will have plenty of time to sit home doing nothing for a week or so, it is my intention that blog post of Friday will be posted when I return from this surgical adventure. See you tomorrow.

JABBA THE HUTT - NO MORE

In the same way that a person is usually incapable of being a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Mets, or the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox, or CNN and FOX NEWS... I am a Star Trek fan (not a Star Wars fan.)  Nevertheless, today I will use a character from Star Wars to illustrate that I no longer look like I recently did.

On August 21, 2014 my family spent the day on the world famous Jersey Shore, specifically the Asbury Park Beach before attending a beautiful wedding of our friend Jack and his bride, Esther.  My wife took a picture of me that I did not treasure.  In fact, I wanted no part of it. The photo made me feel ill. And here it is:
GREETINGS FROM ASBURY PARK, AUGUST 21, 2014 (309 lbs)
As you can see, I could have easily played the part of Jabba the Hutt in any of the Star Wars films:
I look at my photo form August 2,1 2014 - and Jabba don't look so bad....

Fast forward to yesterday, the first day of the Memorial Day Weekend in Chicago.  The weather was glorious, and the temperature finally tipped over 80º F. (27º C)  I thought that this would be a good opportunity to try to replicate my August 21, 2014 photo - so I did.   My 13 year old daughter, Sara,  was the photographer.  Here is me today (well, actually yesterday.)
May 23, 2015 North Avenue Beach, Chicago, Illinois (218 lbs)
In the August 2014 photo, your Jabba the Hutt impersonator is (un)proudly wearing 50" waist khaki shorts and an XXL (extra extra large) t-shirt and a one-size-fits-all, Glenn Beck baseball cap.

In the May 2015 photo, your intrepid blogger, weighing 90 pounds less,  who much more closely resembles a normal human being is PROUDLY wearing a pair of 36" waist khaki Columbia™ shorts and simple L (large North Face™ t-Shirt) and just to be consistent, the same Glenn Beck baseball cap. Have I mentioned before that I am a fan of Glenn Beck?

*One thing I know is that I really make a feast of a supermarket salad.  I add imitation crab, ham, chicken, tomato, onion, cucumber, beets, small portion of sunflower seeds, baby corn, small portion of chick peas, artichokes, sometimes maybe even ten croutons, hard boiled egg.  THE THINGS THAT I DO NOT INCLUDE ARE CHEESE AND DRESSING.  Previously I had estimated the calories of such a salad at 500 calories.   I am going to start estimating it at 750 calories.   I am extremely confident that at 750 calories I am wildly OVERSTATING THE CALORIES.   However, I believe it is better to overestimate than underestimate.  So, I will just assume 750 calories and 'know' that the actual number almost certainly has to be far less.

**today after my workout, I took the elevator 5 floors lower than my floor in order to WALK UP five flights.   I remember so well, when I was 300+ pounds attempting to walk up twelve floors from ground level to my floor, and although I managed it - I was winded beyond winded, and in order to complete this I needed to rest multiple times along the way.  Today I bounced up those five flights like it was absolutely nothing. So the next time I exercise, I am going attempt to WALK UP THE THIRTEEN FLIGHTS OF STAIRS from the 12th floor to the 25th floor where the fitness room is before I workout on the elliptical machine.  I know that I could barely accomplish this a year ago when I tried it.  And I better start doing some stair climbing if I am serious about training for and hiking up HALF DOME at YOSEMITESTAIR CLIMBING WILL BEGIN IN EARNEST THE VERY NEXT TIME I EXERCISE.  My building does not have a stair master machine, but I now intend to become a STAIR MASTER. Right now, I am a stair apprentice.
