CAMPAIGN PROMISES and SKEPTICISM

Does it seem to you that Trump has been in the White House for months already? It appears that he just might have been serious about most of his campaign promises. I still will never be convinced that Mexico will be paying for the wall, unless one calculates the cost savings to America that the additional security will provide. In that case, it is easy to make a case that the wall will pay for itself. When Trump promised to nominate a true conservative to the Supreme Court, there were many Republicans who simply did not believe him. I was skeptical. And hopeful. Apparently we will find out next week if this was yet another promise that will be kept. During the campaign, when Trump was spouting off about a myriad of issues and things he wanted to accomplish, I was skeptical because it largely seemed to good to be true. Each day my skepticism diminishes and I become a believer. We are still in the first week of this new administration. I wonder where we will be after the first month. These are interesting days in America.

DRAIN THE SWAMP

It is amazing to me that I am beginning today's blog with a snippet from a newspaper with virtually no credibility, The New York Times. This newspaper, over this past weekend, publicly promised its readers to 'self-reflect' after the election and re-dedicate itself to truth. (The implication being that truth was not a particularly important goal in their previous reporting.) I doubt that we will be seeing any changes from this left-leaning rag - leopards can't change their spots and tigers can't change their stripes.

WASHINGTON — After President-elect Donald J. Trump promised to “drain the swamp” that he sees in the nation’s capital, his millions of supporters are expecting vast changes in the sprawling federal bureaucracy, and conservative activists are drooling at the chance to remake, resize or reduce the reach of government.

Perhaps I was thinking about 'draining the swamp' when I just happened to pass this giant drain pipe while taking an urban hike in a Cincinnati suburb on Monday afternoon.

With Trump's promise to 'drain the swamp' in Washington, DC.... I decided to climb down into this giant drain that I passed last evening while hiking in a Cincinnati suburb.
