HUGE WHOLE FOODS OPENS IN LAKEVIEW

There has been a Whole Foods near the intersection of Ashland and Belmont since 1996. That store closed earlier this week. Not too worry, a new store more than twice its size has just opened across the street on the right on the intersection of Ashland and Belmont. Of course, I checked it out. I was a bit underwhelmed at the design, but it was hard to argue with the size. It appears that the company contacted the same people who place the name 'TRUMP' on his buildings, as the letters identifying this building are indeed huge.

The dark silhouette at the bottom of this photograph is my daughter.

TWO THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2017

Two days ago, I was paying for my bulk granola and nut selections when I commented to the person at the register that I could not understand why this particular Whole Foods location didn't have the electronic scales that so easily printed out labels with the correct weight and price as other Chicago area stores in the chain.

I was told that headquarters was not sinking any more money into this location.  For a moment, I was bewildered.  This was a prime location and right around the block from my YMCA.  An amazingly convenient location:  a great place to pick up an energizing snack before a workout and a great place to purchase a great meal after a workout.  Before my bewilderment could last too long - I was told that the company was building a new huge store which would become the Chicago Flagship location a mere 500 feet away.

So of course, the next day I stopped by and peered over the fence as I wanted to see how far the construction has progressed.  Not too far, I must say.

This is site, as it appears today, where the new Whole Foods will be built.

I did find this article posted on the internet...so it appears that I will have a new place to shop in about two years.   That's two things to look forward to in early 2017:

• NEW FLAGSHIP WHOLE FOODS LOCATION IN CHICAGO'S NORTH SIDE
• NEW REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT REMOVING COUNTRY FROM LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE (...I hope....)

I found this article online....
LAKEVIEW WHOLE FOODS FLAGSHIP WILL BECOME CITY'S 2nd BIGGEST
Friday, February 13, 2015, by Patrick Sisson
After taking a look at the forthcoming 75,000 square foot West Lakeview Whole Foods flagship store, we're left with one question: is that the whole thing? It's certainly enough space to accommodate in-store restaurants, bulk groceries and the bougie practice of shopping and sipping wine, and will more than double the size of the current neighborhood location at 3300 North Ashland Avenue, which will close when this new store opens....Novak Construction Co. is expected for finish the project by early 2017. Whole Foods has been on a local expansion spree, having just added a new Streeterville location. A West Loop and DePaul location will also open in the next few months, and the chain also has plans an Englewood location that will anchor a retail development many are looking at to catalyze neighborhood development.
