SIX MILLION STEPS

The fitbit counts steps. If the device is being worn, it counts steps. It matters not whether you are aggressively exercising or very passively walking to the refrigerator. Nevertheless, I noticed something this morning.  I have noticed that I am less than 7000 steps away from logging my six millionth step since last September 3 when I purchased my fitbit. This information is likely interesting to only one person in the world. Me. As this is my blog, I decided to document this today. I should reach my ten millionth step sometime later this year. I admit it - I am a fan of dubious achievements.

MID-DAY UPDATE @ 11:00AM local time
As expected, after my morning workout...I surpassed six millions 'lifetime' steps since September 3, 2015

.
It appears that my next milestone on my fitbit will be my 'lifetime' achievement of 'traversing' THREE THOUSAND MILES which I will surely reach within the next three weeks.

THANKS A MILLION

thanks a million
phrase of thanks
  1. 1.
    informal
    thank you very much.

Hey fitbit!  Thanks a million.
These were my total steps during the three months that I have owned this device.   I purchased the device on September 3.

SEPTEMBER 3-SEPTEMBER 30

OCTOBER 1 - OCTOBER 31

NOVEMBER 1 - NOVEMBER 30

SEPTEMBER           677,302 STEPS
OCTOBER                920,446 STEPS
NOVEMBER       1,101,618 STEPS

through the first three months of being a 'fitbitter' I have logged 2,699,366 steps.

This level of steps, this level of walking is completely unsustainable.  At some point, I imagine that I will ratchet down to one hour of walking per day, or perhaps return to the elliptical machine, especially when the cold wintry weather really settles in.  Nevertheless, I am amazed that I have accomplished so much.  It does make me wonder how little activity I might have been involved in prior to September 3 without the silent taunting of the fitbit.  These days, I am always eager to run any errand that involves walking.  I walk in place (march in place) when waiting in line.  I walked in place while waiting for my dentist appointment yesterday.  I know I may look like a bit of a kook.  And I freely admit - I do not care.  Many people give me a knowing smile, with the question: 'Getting your steps in?'    Every half hour spent walking (even walking in place) surely is expending more calories than sitting down in a chair.  I have stepped when watching what little television I do watch - especially when in a hotel room.  It just seems like a much better way to spend an hour of TV time than being a couch potato.  I had previously mastered the art of being a couch potato.  I prefer to be a master stepper.  I prefer to be a walker.  I prefer to be fitter.  I prefer being the person today, over the person that I was one year ago.  Even when I am unhappy about life's many curveballs, I can always derive satisfaction from my daily accomplishment of exercising.  A bad day after walking ten miles, is a far superior day to a bad day that does not include a ten mile walk.

ONE QUARTER OF A MILLION

I received my weekly fitbit report card on Wednesday as always.  I wish I had known how close I was to exceeding ONE QUARTER of a MILLION STEPS for the week...

Nevertheless, my personal 'bar' is set high... it might be awhile before I can exceed this number.  I know myself too well.  Surely, at some point, perhaps at some point in the not-too-distant future...I will try. Still...248,182 steps in one week is somewhat impressive from this former couch potato.

WEDNESDAY'S WORKOUT - NOT APPLICABLE
Perhaps it looks silly that I write calories burned for the day was Zero.  What I mean is that I did not burn many more additional calories over and above the calories burned based on my Basal Metabolic Rate.

Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories one burns if one stayed in bed all day.

fitbit day 42

15050 steps
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It was approximately 11:45PM when I glanced at my fitbit and discovered that I was a little more than 1000 steps away from hitting 15000 steps for the day.  I was staying at a friends home for the past two days, so I have been breaking my pattern of daily workouts.  Still, I wanted to at least break through the 15000 barrier for the day.  I was running in place, on tip toes, trying to be quiet, and still breaking into a pretty good sweat as I made my last 1000 steps last evening in about 13 minutes or so...

This graph shows my small outburst of activity with minutes to go before midnight.   Since I was running in place, which I do not normally do.... when I was done, I had discovered new muscles.... as the calves in both my legs were immediately sore.
