THOUGHTFUL CHOICES

An extremely effective way to lose weight is to stack together scores of good choices. Conversely, an extremely effective way to gain weight is to stack together scores of poor choices.  For example, over the past few months, I have increased the size of my breakfasts from a 500 calories to feasts of 1000+ calories. Of course, I know that an oatmeal breakfast is fine choice.  I also know that I should not have 4 or more packets of oatmeal at one setting. I believe that people 'know' what quantity of food is too much, and certainly know what quantity of food is way too much. The size of my meals has steadily increased from one year ago.  Back in the days when I was quickly dropping weight on a 1000 calorie per day schedule, I remember so clearly how I anticipated  how easy it would be to limit myself to only 2000 calories at some future time. It didn't work out that way. It is not easy for me to limit myself to 2000 calories. In fact, it is not easy to limit myself to 3000 calories. And for someone like me, it appears that it will never be easy to do that. Looking towards the future, I will chose my meals more thoughtfully. This past week, beginning on Monday, I have been very successful in limiting my calories well under 2000, for the first time in a very long time. And once again, just as last year, I think my scale will 'notice'.

NOBODY EVER SUSPECTS THE BUTTERFLY!

When talking about his afterlife beliefs, Bart says he wants to come back as a butterfly, because "nobody ever suspects the butterfly". Bart then imagines the school burnt down, with Skinner being arrested for it, while a Bart butterfly is seen with a gas can.

Of course you are now wondering...what is the point of this? This is my obtuse way of celebrating an email that I received from fitbit yesterday. I have been 'awarded' a new imaginary fitbit badge! This  badge honors my 'lifetime achievement' (that is since September 3, 2015) of taking enough steps to have walked 2500 miles which apparently is equal to the migratory distance of the Monarch Butterfly.

ONE HOUR = DAY OFF?

Perhaps only in the twisted world that I inhabit could a one hour workout be considered a day off from exercise. As I have explained, my need to exercise each day, is more mental than physical. I know that there would be benefits from taking at least one day off per week. I know a lot of things. Like many human beings, knowledge about what is best for me does not control what I do. In my experience on Earth, human beings are not always rational. Want proof? This is easy.  Here are three examples to prove that human being are not always rational, in no particular order.

1. Human Beings smoke cigarettes. That is irrational.
2. Human Beings use heroin, crack, and a myriad of other dangerous drugs. That is very irrational.
3. Human Beings support Bernie Sanders for President. That is just crazy.

Back to my point...I do not always behave rationally. This should come as no surprise to anyone, as anyone who can balloon up to 309 lbs does not do that with rationality ruling the day. Although my current weight is 220 lbs, my predilection for irrationality has not abandoned me. Yesterday was 'day off' of sorts.... I did utilize my home elliptical machine (but only for 45 minutes) and I augmented that with a quick 24 minutes on the treadmill. Compared to some of my more vigorous workouts, this one hour did seem like a day off...
