ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

Another one bites the dust. Is it just me, or does is seem like every day another lefty liberal icon is leaving the national stage under a cloud of some degree of sexual harassment?  I must admit, I am not exactly heartbroken over the plight of any of these guys. They are not the victims.

* * * * * * * * * *

Would you like to know what a sanctimonious schmuck looks like? This should do it. It is a photograph of sanctimonious schmuck Matt Lauer interviewing Bill O'Reilly after O'Reilly was fired by Fox News for some various cases of sexual harassment which were settled with big cash payouts to a handful of women. I am not defending O'Reilly. But what gave Lauer the right to grill Bill?

from variety.com
In September, Lauer asked the former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly if he’d ever sent lewd text messages to colleagues. “Think about those … women and what they did,” Lauer said. “They came forward and filed complaints against the biggest star at the network they worked at. Think about how intimidating that must have been. Doesn’t that tell you how strongly they felt about you?”

Would you like to see a photograph of a woman who has no idea how much danger she's in. This should do it. It is a photograph of Katie Holmes flanked by formerly respected, politically influential, Harvey Weinstein and the former King of Morning TV, Matt Lauer.

Would you like to see a photograph of two people sharing trade secrets? This should do it. "What, you mean you don't have a secret button under your desk to lock your door and keep your object of your affection trapped?"

.
Would you like to see a photograph that is just disturbing? This should do it. I don't care what Matt Lauer does in the own time (OK, just kidding, This was from Halloween 2013) I just felt like sharing it today.

BURN NOTICE

It's embarrassing to admit how little time it took me to plow through 111 episodes of Burn Notice on netflix. Embarrassing enough, that I will not admit it. I will admit only that it took more than a week, and far less than one month. Great show about a spy, Michael Westin, who has been 'burned.' That is cut off from his previous support network and life as a spy.  So if you are looking for some great TV on a cold wintry day, I might suggest that you give Burn Notice a try. Be prepared for some sleep deprivation, as it is very difficult not to watch the 'next' episode. (110 times)

NETFLIX BINGE WATCHING

Anyone can binge watch TV on netflix. Binge watchers often curl up on the couch and get dug in for a few hours of episodic TV. I do things a bit differently. Naturally. I started watching a very creepy and equally engaging show this past weekend: The Followers. This show is about a charismatic serial killer who heads a vicious cult of like-minded misfits. Kevin Bacon is the actor charged with ending this reign of terror. On Saturday night I woke up around 2:00AM and started watching netflix. I watched for a few hours before daybreak. And during every minutes of this binge watching I was walking in place getting in steps and more steps. During the day, I did take an actual urban hike of seven miles with my daughter. During the afternoon and up until midnight, my binge-watching continued. When the clock struck 12:00 midnight my fitbit showed that I had exceeded 70,000 steps for the day. I am well aware that stepping in place does not generate the same benefit as actual walking, but I am sure that its benefit is better than just being slouched in a couch for the equivalent amount of time.

REASONS TO VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS

Early yesterday morning, my wife alerted me to this new book, released last month, which is currently #1 on amazon.com: REASONS TO VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS. It is easy to understand why. The mountains of angst being caused by the new Republican administration are impelling people all across this great country to search for guidance. This book has opened my eyes to a new way of thinking. Honestly, I feel as if I could have written this book myself.  Before the day was over yesterday, I heard the author interviewed on the Dennis Prager Radio Show. The author is a graduate of Yale University, so he is clearly a clever guy. I have considered sending this book to some of my friends and family - but I am sure that there is nothing in this book that they already don't know.

MAKE AMERICA THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH

There are few that doubt that the next four years, with Donald Trump at the helm will offer a great deal of entertainment. Trump supporters, like me, expect that entertainment to be balanced with overwhelmingly positive results. Trump's detractors, unlike me, expect the entertainment, to be  coupled with doom and disaster. Either way, virtually all Americans are forecasting entertainment.  Perhaps Donald Trump will become 'The Greatest Show on Earth.' The original owner of that description currently belongs to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But after a 'brief' run of 146 years, that show will not go on.  I believe that President Donald Trump is sure to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, while also being THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. It is going to be a better show than the one that just ran four eight long years.

Ringling Bros. closing ‘Greatest Show on Earth’ after 146 years

Send home the clowns. After 146 years, the curtain is coming down forever on “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Its last performance will be May 21 at the Nassau Coliseum. The show stoppers included high operating costs, declining attendance and changing public tastes. Not to mention a long and costly legal battle with animal rights advocates, which ended with its hugest stars — the elephants — being pink slipped. Elephants had been the symbol of the circus since an Asian pachyderm named Jumbo joined the show in 1882. Employees were told the sad news Saturday night in Orlando. The circus will perform 30 more times. Besides the show on Long Island, there will be one in Brooklyn. Other stops on its last tour include Atlanta, Washington, Philadelphia and Boston. With its exotic animals and death-defying acrobats, the big top had been a huge draw from the mid-1800s to the mid 1900s. Phineas Taylor Barnum had made a traveling spectacle of animals and human oddities popular, while the five Ringling brothers performed juggling acts and skits. Eventually, they merged and the modern circus was born. Its clowns, acrobats, horseback riders — along with their animals — were transported across the country in special cars on extra long trains. New York staged its own yearly spectacle. When the circus came to town, the performers, along with invited guests, rode elephants from the Sunnyside rail yards through the Queens Midtown Tunnel and then along Manhattan streets to Madison Square Garden. In its heyday, the circus attracted huge crowds. It had such a glamorous image that kids famously dreamed of running away from home to join. But as years passed, children grew less enchanted. First blockbuster movies, then television and finally, video games and the Internet captured the circus’ core audience — both the youngsters and their parents.“The competitor in many ways is time,” said circus owner Kenneth Feld, adding that transporting the show by rail and other circus quirks — such as providing a traveling school for performers’ children — are throwbacks to another era. When the Feld family bought the circus in 1967, the show was just under three hours. Today, it’s 2 hours and 7 minutes, with the longest segment — a tiger act — clocking in at 12 minutes. “Try getting a 3- or 4-year-old today to sit for 12 minutes,” Feld said. Feld and his daughter Juliette Feld, the company’s chief operating officer, acknowledged another reality that led to the closing, and it was the one thing that initially drew millions to the show: the animals. In May of 2016 the company removed the elephants from the shows and sent them to live on a conservation farm in Central Florida..In 2014, Feld Entertainment won $25.2 million in settlements from groups including the Humane Society, ending a 14-year fight over allegations that circus employees mistreated elephants.Attendance has been dropping for 10 years, said Juliette Feld, but when the elephants left, there was a “dramatic drop” in ticket sales. While many said they didn’t want big animals to perform in circuses, many others refused to attend a circus without them. The Felds said their existing animals — lions, tigers, camels, donkeys, alpacas, kangaroos and llamas — will go to suitable homes. In recent years, Ringling Bros. tried to remain relevant, hiring its first African American ringmaster, then its first female ringmaster, and also launching an interactive app. “We tried all these different things to see what would work,’’ said Kenneth Feld. “We weren’t successful in finding the solution.”

The end of the circus was probably secured when the elephants were laid off. A circus without elephants is like a computer without wifi.
