BURN NOTICE

It's embarrassing to admit how little time it took me to plow through 111 episodes of Burn Notice on netflix. Embarrassing enough, that I will not admit it. I will admit only that it took more than a week, and far less than one month. Great show about a spy, Michael Westin, who has been 'burned.' That is cut off from his previous support network and life as a spy.  So if you are looking for some great TV on a cold wintry day, I might suggest that you give Burn Notice a try. Be prepared for some sleep deprivation, as it is very difficult not to watch the 'next' episode. (110 times)

DAY THREE


It's a bit early for me to announce, even if only to myself, that this time (yet again) I am serious. However, I have eaten 'properly' for three days, and it has been a very long, long time since I have been able to say that. Yesterday in a hotel room while watching Star Wars Rougue One on netflix, I did what I used to do. In lieu of a taking a walk, I stepped in place during the two hour movie. By the time the rebels has successfully taken ownership of the plans to the Death Star, I had accumulated 15000 steps. I am sure that this bit of exercise is not quite the same thing as actually walking, but I am also convinced that this bit of exercise is better than sitting on a couch while watching TV.

SHERLOCK

It seems like 'Sherlock' fans have been waiting quite a long time for the return of this BBC TV series and that wait ended at 9PM Eastern/8PM Central time in the United States on January 1.  Not to worry, I am not going to divulge any plot points a mere 12 hours after its broadcast debut. For me, it is fairly unusual to actually watch a TV show at the time of its airing, as I am a true Netflixian. Nevertheless, I think that the next episode of this 3 show season airs next Sunday. I will be there. You should be too.

The good thing (for me) about not quite keeping my so-called New Year's Resolution on January 1st is that I am no longer the type of individual who thinks that just because my resolution didn't quite  last one day, that that punched my ticket to simply try again next year. Every day is a day to start a new resolution. People that ONLY think that a resolution must be made and kept starting on January 1st are forgetting about the other 364 days that are available for new resolution.s

CHANGING SEASONS

One thing interesting about living in North America is experiencing the changing seasons. Definitionally there are four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. One of the most amusing articles of clothing that I once saw for sale in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was a shirt that said: The 4 Seasons of the UP: Early Winter, Winter, Late Winter, and Next Winter.  Here in Chicago where I live, we are said to have only two seasons: Winter and Construction. Personally, I have concluded that my life revolves around these four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Netflix. As the colder weather sweeps in, I have noticed that I have and will continue to spend much more time indoors with my workouts on an elliptical machine rather than walking or hiking inside.

Yesterday, I did actually squeeze in a four mile urban hike before my late morning appointment. However, I have come to recognize that I will be indoors more and more as the mercury drops. The 10-Days Forecast in Chicago shows no day forecasted to have high temperatures that will rise above freezing, 32°F. I think that there is going to be a lot of Netflix in my immediate future. If you know of something that I should be watching, please let me know.



The 10-Day forecast for Chicago shows that we will never actually get above freezing for the foreseeable (forecastable) future.

STRANGER THINGS

I had been getting all my exercise for the past six weeks by walking and hiking outdoors. After missing a couple of days in a row, it just seemed like it was time to do something different. For the first time in weeks, I spent some time on the elliptical machine. The bad thing about that was that all my hardened callouses on the palms of my hands had completely disappeared over the past six weeks. After 97 minutes working the handles of the elliptical machine I developed some new annoying painful blisters on my hands which had healed so nicely over the summer. On the other hand (no pun intended) I started to watch a new Netflix series, STRANGER THINGS, and now I am completely hooked. I do not think that it will take me too long to get through this nine episode season.

A second session later in the evening had me back on the elliptical machine for an additional 97 minutes.
