CHAIN GANG

My daughter is a cheerleader at her high school. When there is a home football game, my wife and I attend to watch the cheerleaders (as well as the football game)   I do not know too much about football. I often watch as many as one game per year, The Super Bowl, and sometimes I don't even watch that game. My knowledge of football is slightly better than my knowledge of cricket. And yet, last evening I volunteered to be a member of the chain gang.

In gridiron football, the chain crew (commonly known as the "chain gang") is a crew that manages signal poles on one of the sidelines. The chain crew, under the direction of the head linesman, signals the officials' decisions; it does not make decisions. Players look to the chain crew to see the down number and the line to gain. Officials may rely on the chain crew after a play (incomplete pass or penalty) whose outcome depends on the original spot of the ball. (wikipedia)

After two days of logging 30000+ steps, I was convinced that I should take it easy on Friday. I had about 12000 steps when I casually walked over to the football stadium for the game. Right before kickoff, I had just under 20000 steps. During the entire game while I was on the chain crew I accumulated an additional 10000 steps as I was marching in place, when I wasn't marching up and down the field.

If every day were like today...   You'd weigh 240.6 lbs in 5 weeks

.

Weight loss is funny. Let me amend that. Losing weight can be frustrating.  My weight this morning, Saturday, was 255.8 lbs. I lost only one pound this week? I had expected better results. One result which has been sharp, has been my increased energy level. I just need to keep at it. And I will.

Really, what is my problem?  I know I ate too much this week. A little too much in the cookie department,  a bit too much on the chocolate.  I think I may have 'forgotten' to enter everything consumed into my daily food log... But still.... 219.7 lbs?  Is my weight so tentative that the slightest deviation sends it spiraling up?  Answer: Apparently is yes.  So what to do?  Do better this week and every week following.

Friday was the second game that my daughter was cheerleading for the Payton Grizzlies. It was the first time that she was in uniform. Once again the game was played at a 'local' high school football stadium about five miles from my home. I walked there, but stretched the walk to 8 miles. Walking is good but it does not 'erase' over-eating as every once in while I apparently need to re-learn.

Last night was the first time my daughter wore her snappy cheerleading outfit.

Yesterday,  and during the entire week, my 'sweet tooth' was wildly out-of-control.  The solution to this problem is simple: CUT IT OUT. I really do not completely believe that I gained all this weight in one week, (6.8 pounds - it does not seem possible) part of it might be due from the lateness of the hour of my dinner after the football game. Nevertheless, what the scale says on Saturday morning, is what it says.  I will try to get the scale to be a bit more friendly next week. STILL, BEFORE I FLOG MYSELF FOR THIS BACKWARDS WEEK - I WILL REMIND MYSELF THAT I AM DOWN 89.3 POUNDS FROM THE DAY THAT I STARTED ON DECEMBER 24, 2014 @ 309 POUNDS.

In a battle between two of the highest academically ranked schools within the CPS (Chicago Public Schools) High Schools, our team, the Payton Grizzlies came out on top. As much fun as it was to watch the game last week, when my daughter was cheering, there is something more rewarding about watching the team for which you are rooting to persevere and win.
