GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY

How can it be that lefty liberals have such a perfect record? They appear to be on the wrong side of every issue. I can think of no exception. There must be an exception, but I cannot think of one. For example, recently Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel has promised to defy federal law regarding  people who do not belong in our country. He has promised to maintain the status of Chicago as a sanctuary city. He espouses the idea that immigrants help make our city great. Of course that is true. Why can't he and the other folks that think like him not understand that our country has the right, and responsibility to control the flow of immigrants into our nation. We all know that there are millions of people all over the globe patiently waiting in line for the privilege of becoming Americans, legally. Comparing a ILLEGAL ALIEN to a LAWFUL IMMIGRANT is like comparing a BANK ROBBER'S NOTE to a WITHDRAWAL FORM. Why is this a complicated idea?

In a sense both of these documents shown above are WITHDRAWAL FORMS. Are they equivalent?  If they were I equivalent, then I would like to make a withdrawal at a 'sanctuary bank' where there are no consequences for breaking the law. Is this really such a complicated subject?

NORTHERLY ISLAND WITH MY DAUGHTER

One of my favorite places to hike around Chicago is Northerly Island. Northerly Island was once the home of a small airport which our previous Mayor bulldozed away in the dark of night nearly 15  years ago. It was turned into a beautiful quiet park with stupendous views of Chicago. My daughter who has accompanied me many times on urban hikes has wanted to keep the hiking to the city streets. Finally, she agreed to join me in Northerly Island.  I would hope that she will hike with me there more often. It is a great place to take pictures and a great place to enjoy some moments of solitude for a city dweller.

Meigs Field was demolished by a mayor Richard M. Daley in 2003. It is now Northerly Island in 2010.

Merrill C. Meigs Field Airport (ICAO: KCGX) was a single runway airport in Chicago which was in operation from December 1948 until March 2003, on Northerly Island, an artificial peninsula on Lake Michigan. Northerly Island was also the site of the Century of Progress (1933–34) in Chicago. The airport sat adjacent to downtown Chicago, the second largest business district in North America. Meigs Field airport was closed when the then-mayor of Chicago, Richard M. Daley, ordered the runway destroyed, with bulldozers, without the thirty-day notice required by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.

Meigs Field airport was opened on 10 December 1948, and, by 1955, had become the busiest single-strip airport in the United States. The latest air traffic tower was built in 1952 and the terminal was dedicated in 1961. The airfield was named for Merrill C. Meigs, publisher of the Chicago Herald and Examiner and an aviation advocate.

Northerly Island, owned by the Chicago Park District, is the only lakefront structure to be built based on Daniel Burnham's 1909 Plan of Chicago. The island was to be populated by trees and grass for the public enjoyment by all.

GOOSE ISLAND

Goose Island is the only island within Chicago. One will never see a sign welcoming you to the island or a sign thanking you for visiting and asking you to visit again. It seems to only be identified on Chicago maps. There are no residential units on this island. The theme of my urban hike today was to walk every street, every nook and cranny that was not private property on Goose Island. Once I finished that, which was about five miles, I circumnavigated the island as best I could. My hike ended up back on Lake Michigan. When I was done, I had logged fifteen miles.

This shows that I walked every street possible in Goose Island and that I took a hike around the island as well.

It was a 'grey' day in Chicago and this black and white photograph captured the mood better than a full color photo.

Goose Island is the only island on the Chicago River in Illinois. It is an artificial island, formed by the North Branch of the Chicago River on the west and the North Branch Canal on the east. It covers 160 acres (0.65 km²), and is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long and 0.5 miles (0.80 km) across at its widest point.

The land that was to become the present-day Goose Island lies on a bend in the Chicago River between North Avenue on the north and Chicago Avenue on the south. In 1853 William B. Ogden, who had been Chicago's first mayor, formed the Chicago Land Company, which purchased land on the east side of the river to excavate clay for brick-making. Starting from the south, workers excavated a channel northwards, and by 1857 the channel had rejoined the river forming a shortcut past the bend in the river. The channel was eventually dredged to 50 feet (15 m) wide and 10 feet (3.0 m) deep to make it navigable, and it became known as the North Branch Canal, or Ogden's Canal. The island thus created was also sometimes nicknamed Ogden's Island, a name that some Chicago aldermen proposed to make the official name of the island in 1891.
