IHOP

On Sunday morning, my daughter and I took a stroll to a neighborhood IHOP. There are plenty of places to find a quick and tasty breakfast in Chicago. We purposefully chose a place more than 3 miles from home. Naturally, we walked. I made a healthy choice of a ham and cheese omelette. Once we walked back home, it was time for me to jump in my car and head to Cincinnati so that I could be in front of a customer at 10:00AM Monday morning.

.

The thing of particular significance to me is that our 7.25 round-trip hike to IHOP on Sunday morning was not even our first jaunt of the day...

...My daughter and I have an agreement. I will never refuse an invitation to take a walk in the neighborhood. On Saturday night after midnight, which was technically Sunday Morning, we took a 4 mile stroll. This meant that our IHOP hike was our SECOND HIKE of the day. Well, you have to understand, the weather in Chicago has recently been spectacular, so this is the time of year to take advantage of that...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Late Saturday evening I drove from Chicago to Bloomington, Illinois for a two-day mini wholesale fabric show.   I am staying at a LaQuinta Hotel because it has a fitness room.   I don't think that my morning workout on the elliptical machine was as strenuous as the workouts that I have had at home, as I am dealing with a different machine and different settings - nevertheless, the machine reported that my half hour workout burned 300 calories yesterday morning at 6:00AM.   I will be using this machine for the next two days, so I started with my evening workout to increase some settings to make it more challenging.

The hotel offered a 'free breakfast.'  However there was absolutely nothing that was suitable for me.   I did 'harvest' a couple of apples, just in case, I needed them for an 'emergency' meal.   I had planned on trying a breakfast item at Subway which was directly across the street.   Apparently Subway is not open at 7:00AM on a Sunday.  So, I started driving.  I found a Bob Evans restaurant.  After I sat down, I visited the nutritional website for Bob Evans and found a Western Omelette.  And that is precisely what I ordered for breakfast.  It was a sizable portion and was only 278 CALORIES.  Of course, I avoided home fries, and toast and jam - the kinds of things that could easily have doubled the calorie count of this breakfast.

Within a 5 minute drive of the location of my mini wholesale fabric show is a Jason's Deli.  I had lunch and dinner at Jason's Deli yesterday, and I am sure to have lunch and dinner there again today.  Jason's is my favorite restaurant!

The Jason's Deli in Bloomington, Illinois had a drive-thru window.  I was able to scoot away from my show for just 15 minutes to get my lunch to-go.

After my show and before I returned to my hotel, I stopped at Jason's Deli again for dinner.  (The only thing that kept me away Jason's for breakfast was that the restaurant didn't open until 10AM.  For Dinner, I tried something new: ASIAGO POT ROAST SANDWICH (half) with Fire Roasted Tortilla Soup. The meal was absolutely delicious.

(The elliptical machine at the LaQuinta Hotel has a feature that my home elliptical does not have. This machine counts the number of steps taken during a workout. This machine indicated that in my 30 minute evening workout, I had taken 2030 step.  I have nothing to compare this to, but it seems like a lot!)

885 CALORIES

It is hard to believe that the same guy who less than one week ago gave almost no thought to consuming a 2000 calorie meal has just completed another day of SATISFYING EATING that was actually under 900 calories for the day!  I promise you I found myself no hungrier today than on any other day of the previous many years.  Four days ago, during my 'wellness' checkup, my doctor said that we really don't have to eat so much at one sitting as the next meal is typically only 6 hours away.   We only need enough to survive until that next meal.   This is what I ate today:

BREAKFAST:   TWO (2) NAVEL ORANGES (85 calories each)         170 CALORIES
LUNCH:           3-EGG OMELETTE w/CHEESE                                    425 CALORIES
DINNER:           ONE (1) SMOKED POLISH SAUSAGE
w/TWO (2) CUPS OF BROCCOLI CUTS                   290 CALORIES

                                                          TOTAL             885 CALORIES

I did eat this same menu yesterday as well as I am a creature of habit.  Remember, I am the guy who previously divulged that I ate only about 8 different 'entrees' from only five different 'restaurants' over a period of multiple years.   THIS FOOD TASTES BETTER.   I FEEL BETTER.   I AM GETTING BETTER.    By the time I visit my doctor in eight weeks for the followup appointment from my 'wellness' exam - I expect to be a lot 'weller' than I was way, way back on December 24, 2014 when I woke up! (no typo there, that exam took place a scant four days ago!)

The highpoint of my day was the five (5) mile walk I took with my daughter.   The first 2.5 miles was a true cardio experience as we were racing to the brand-new Maggie Daley Park in Chicago before darkness set in.    I don't know what precise speed we were walking, but we were walking fast and stopping only to cross busy downtown streets.    On the way back, we took our time and there was no cardio component to the return trip.   Nevertheless, I am going to assume that it was far better than hopping onto a bus.
