THAT WAS THEN THIS IS NOW

Good Morning. Before we get started today, we take a look back. That was Then - This is Now.

Lifted from my blog on October 24, 2015

Ever since my successful hike UP & DOWN HALF DOME in Yosemite Park [October 1, 2015], I have discovered that walking is absolutely invigorating. I enjoy strapping on a backpack filled with water and/or apples and/or couple of granola bars and logging some serious miles at a pace very near 4.5 mph.  I previously believed that I would unlikely walk 80 miles in one week again.  It simply seemed preposterous. I was wrong.

This week I walked 122 miles!

Saturday     October 17          16 miles
Sunday       October 18          19.1 miles
Monday      October 19          13.1 miles
Tuesday      October 20          18.1 miles
Wednesday October 21          26.2 miles
Thursday     October 22         17.1 miles
Friday         October 23          13.1 miles

GRAND TOTAL MILES WALKED OCTOBER 17-23           122 MILES

I am fairly certain that this might be a personal record that might not be broken for a long time.  I do not want to break this record.  I want to revel in the accomplishment and maintain a much more balanced approach in the future.  Still, I am glad that I completed this week of half-marathons.

When this week started, I weighed 220.1 lbs.  It was with great anticipation that I stepped onto my scale this morning, after all this walking and walking and walking... (and plenty of eating as well...)

THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW. FAST FORWARD TEN MONTHS LATER TO AUGUST 20, 2016

Apparently I still enjoy walking and hiking. In fact, I enjoy walking/hiking more than ever. I previously believed that I would unlikely walk 122 miles in one week again. It simply seemed preposterous. I was wrong again).

This week I walked 153 miles!

GRAND TOTAL MILES WALKED AUGUST 13-19           153 MILES

I walked/hiked 153 miles this week

I am fairly certain that this might be a personal record that might not be broken for a long time.  I do not want to break this record.  I want to revel in the accomplishment and maintain a much more balanced approach in the future.  Still, I am glad that I completed this week of intense walking and hiking.

When this week started, I weighed 221.1 lbs. Coincidentally and/or ironically, this week started with my weight precisely one pound more than it was ten months ago. It was with great anticipation that I stepped onto my scale this morning, after all this hiking and walking...

I am currently traveling south of 'Interstate 215' as my current weight is 214.6 lbs. It has been quite some time since I was anywhere near this particular highway!

During my recent mini-ballooning when I reached 241.9 lbs on May 7 during my hernia, I have lost 27.3 lbs. During this entire near-two year journey (604 days) I managed to briefly reach 209 lbs for a brief moment. I am within striking range of having lost 100 lbs.  My initial goal was to get below 200 lbs. Once again, this seems possible. I am convinced that I will NOT be walking 153 miles this week, next week, or anytime soon. However, I take great pride in that fact that I did this at least this one time. I have an overwhelming sense of accomplishment, no matter how dubious and/or ridiculous this accomplishment is.

It took some extra effort to squeeze in the last ten miles walking this week. In the morning I picked up my Mom and her brother at O'hare Airport and arrived early enough to walk three miles around the airport. They had traveled from New York for a wedding. During the day we did some sightseeing and between the time they checked into their hotel and the time that I drove them to their Friday night party, I was able to squeeze in one last seven mile walk.

You should make a map every week with a radius of how far you walked that week/month overlayed on a map with Chicago center. Would give a cool perspective of how far you could go
