FIREWORKS

This is how the day ended yesterday. My family met at Navy Pier at watched the 20 minute fireworks show. It would have been nice if some of the musical accompaniment had included patriotic music,  but I guess that would have shown a favorable bias to America and its values. Liberals hate that. End of rant. Time to move on.
Fireworks at Navy Pier, Independence Day Weekend, 2016
.
The day began with a 97 minute session on the elliptical machine.
.
After lunch, I set out for a long holiday weekend hike. My goal was to reach the Museum of Science and Industry (about ten miles south). I set out for this hike by traveling two miles north. By the time I finally arrived at the Museum Campus, a bit more than four hours later, I had walked 18 miles.
.
.
Along the way, traveling the Lakefront Trail I passed a WARNING SIGN that sent spasms of well-being down my spine. Just reading the sign made me feel safe and secure.
.
I think I spotted a couple of gang members nearby dealing automatic weapons and drugs and they were literally quaking in the boots. (OK, that didn't really happen - but you have to agree that the sign is unintentionally hilarious and willfully stupid.
.
As I had planned, once I did finally arrive at the Museum Campus, I hopped on a bus to take me back to downtown. Was I ever lucky. Almost the moment that I arrived at the bus stop, so did the bus. And it was an express bus! I can't remember ever being on a city bus that was zipping along the highway at 45+ miles per hour. Once I got off the bus, it was still a two mile walk to the local Whole Foods to grab a snack before meeting my family at Navy Pier. After the fireworks show, our family walked home. When midnight struck, I had walked 22 miles, and 60,299 steps.  I broke personal record of steps within a week. My previous record had been 311,404 during Thanksgiving week Nov 22, 1015 thru November 28th. My new (dubious) record for most steps in one week is now 312,000. If only I hadn't slacked off on Tuesday, I might have really crushed the record.
New (dubious) personal record - 312,000 steps in one Sunday thru Saturday week.
