ANOTHER UNIVERSITY TARNISHED

It was apparently only about 150 students who walked out on a graduation speech by Vice President Mike Pence, but still, with all the headlines, the reputation of the University of Notre Dame has been tarnished. Is this how the University has taught its graduates to learn from new ideas?  If so, the university has failed these snowflakes.

$400,000

President Obama was paid $400,000 for a 90 minute speech last week. A conservative like me might wonder, what he could possibly say that was so worthy of receiving this much money. We live in a system, capitalism, where someone's pay is based on finding someone willing to pay it. Lefty liberals have a different response.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) last week said she was "troubled" by the speaking fee the former president is reportedly receiving for that appearance. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) also expressed disappointment in the former president's decision.

Here is my question to both Senator Warren and Senator Sanders. So what? If an organization wants to pay Obama this much money for a speech - how does this adversely affect anyone else?  No seriously, I want to know why this is a problem?  For example, am I to believe that current 'American Indian' Senator and a future ex-President, Elizabeth Warren would turn down such a fee? Sure, and I believe that fairy dust can make one fly.

Could these two have beat Trump last November?  I believe they could have.  A scary thought indeed.

NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN

Last night, President Donald Trump announced that the United States had sent nearly 60 Tomahawk missiles to the airbase that launched the recent nerve gas attack in Syria. This response is not unlike what our 44th President wanted to do, but didn't have the guts to do without the approval the mostly amoral United Nations. President Obama was fierce when it came to dishing out warnings and timid when it came to backing up his justified threats. He spoke of the consequences of crossing the 'red line.' When the red line was crossed, there was no response. The result of this was that the United States was not taken seriously on the world stage by Assad or any other world leader, especially the tyrants. The United States was not respected, and worse, it was not feared.  Last nights bombing mission in Syria might have accomplished more than simply the destruction of one airbase owned by a dictatorial killer - it might have sent the message to the rest of the world that there is a 'new sheriff in town.' That message, if sent, and if received would be a very good collateral benefit of last night's military action. Let's all hope so.

STATE OF THE UNION

Today is Tuesday, February 28. President Trump will be giving a speech to a joint session of Congress. Although, it is not officially a 'State of the Union' Address, for all practical purposes that is exactly what it is - a State of the Union address.  I wonder if the 'snowflake' democrats will boycott this spectacle tonight, just as they boycotted the inauguration. I know one thing, it is simply amazing that Donald Trump is the President of the United States. I ain't even saying that it is all good - I am saying that it is amazing. I am, however, saying that it is mostly good. And just so I can be unambiguous, it's a many times better than the alternative that we dodged last November.

PRESIDENTIAL FAREWELL SPEECH

I have waited 8 years for tonight. If I were to be slightly more accurate, I have waited 8 years for a week from Friday. One week from Friday, America will have a President who has actually accomplished something a bit more complex than being a community agitator. Our current president took his community agitation skills and masterfully spread his influence and has agitated an entire country. The thing, the sure thing, the one thing that so many people felt surely would improve with his presidency was relationships among the races. This was probably the president's major negative achievement as race relations are arguably at a low point not seen for generations. Farewell, Mr. President.

The Unaffordable Care Act would be a good thing to erase as quickly as possible.

It's been a real challenge to get in a workout recently. My 'workouts' can be nothing more complicated than an urban hike around my hometown. I am sure that my hiking hobby was much more fulfilling when I was actually hiking an actual trail in a city, in a state or national park. Cold weather, and reduced hours of sunlight have conspired against me. Although I was getting prepared to take some kind of walk in the Cincinnati area yesterday - I was happy and relieved to discover that my hotel had an elliptical machine. I particularly appreciated this as the elliptical machine at home is currently out of order. Why is it always me who is using my home elliptical machine in the community fitness room when the hand levers chose to break? It cannot be that I am so strong. As I am not.
