You, my readers, know that I have been very honest in this blog. With Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner in the news so often lately, I, too, have made a new realization about myself:
I used to be a male trapped in a woman's body.
Then 58 years ago, at 6:03AM Eastern Time, I was born. And that issue ended for me. In other words, today is my birthday. I feel like a new man. It has nothing to do with gender re-assignment, and everything to do with my levels of energy.
What a difference a day makes. On Tuesday morning in central Illinois I was on a trail at 6:30AM and my hike started with the temperatures at 30° Fahrenheit. (-1° Celsius for my readers in the rest of the world) Yesterday, I was much further south within Illinois (across the river from St Louis) and the temperature when I started my 10 mile hike at 5:00AM was 50°F (10°C) However, when one starts the day at 5:00AM there is a darkness on the edge of town, in fact, there is darkness all over town!
I continue to maintain my desire to walk 10 miles per day. It is a great feeling. And once the walk is completed, the tone is set for the day - it makes me somewhat impervious to some of life's curveballs. Whatever small roadblocks or setbacks that life deals me - I simply can remind myself that I have walked 10 miles that day - and I simply feel good. I feel good about my accomplishment, I feel good about my determination and I feel good about myself. I did once read that it is harder to lose weight when one exercises a lot. This appears to be true - as it 'allows' me to eat a bit more than I might otherwise as there is an increase in appetite. The body is a machine - it needs fuel.

I 'discovered' this tree on the trail this morning.... It screamed out for some photos taken with my 10 second timer. (The real trick was trying to balance my phone on my backpack which was hanging from a post and to get it oriented straight and to take the photo without phone succumbing to the early morning windy conditions so that it could snap the photo before falling to the ground.)
