My daughter is taking a High School entrance exam enrichment course at EAST WEST UNIVERSITY on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. My wife drove the three of us downtown so that Sara could take her class. In the past couple of weeks, I have used the two hour 'window' of opportunity to take a long exercise walk. I had already walked for 7 miles in nearly 90 minutes earlier in the day. Last week, when I noticed the Au Bon Pain Cafe' inside the building, I knew that I could finally sample this eatery. I ordered a THAI PEANUT WRAP which was listed as being only 540 calories. This wrap was unbelievably tasty.

For dessert, I had a pair of pears. And yet again, I have found a new favorite restaurant. For years and years in my previous (moronic) lifestyle, I ate practically at only 5 places: Burger King, McDonald's, Panda Express, Subway and White Castle. Discovering new regional and national chain restaurants has been very important to my successful weight loss program as I travel so frequently. Any time that I discover a new place to eat is a good day indeed. AU BON PAIN gets the Marc Jacobs Weight Loss Journal STAMP OF APPROVAL!

My first workout walk of the day started at 9AM. This was the first time that there was a serious hint of the winter weather that is on the way in a few short weeks. The 15MPH winds made the air temperature feel like 34 degrees. (nearly freezing)
I was wearing two layers on my legs and upper body. I wore my ski cap for the first time in many months and I should have worn gloves as it was really chilly when I first started. Of course, I warmed up soon enough and had an enjoyable 7 mile walk.
I took the long way to get to Eckhart Park in order to watch my daughter swim in competition for the first time. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. I was not interested in getting to the park fast. I turned a 2 mile journey into a 7 mile journey. I only wanted to insure that I arrived at the park before 11AM. I succeeded. There was, however, one small snafu. My daughter's meet was NOT at Eckhart Park. (I had forgotten that the competition was at a different pool) The problem was solved by using UBER which got me to the right park in time to watch my daughter place 2nd in her 50 Yard Freestyle race.
Sara (yellow swim cap) competes in the 50 Yard Freestyle and finishes the race in 39:14 |
