HOMERUN , FIRST AT BAT

This post might be of interest only to quilters. That might be a very thin slice of the readers of this blog. Nevertheless, yesterday, I did the equivalent of a major league rookie hitting a home run in his first at bat. It does not happen often, but it has happened.  From the baseball almananc.com:
Being a Major League baseball player is hard, and nothing might be harder than that very first at bat. Coming up to the plate against your first Major League pitcher, you hear the cheers at home or the boos on the road, but most of all you just hear the word in your head: "make it worth it." How many players have come up to bat their first time only to head back to the dugout with a lifetime .000 average? Countless. How many have gone to the plate with doubt in their minds, only to return there four bases later with a perfect career average?.
I just received a new 'line' to sell in two of the states that I travel to: Ohio and Indiana. The line is ALEXANDER HENRY FABRICS. Three cartons of samples were waiting for me when I returned home last Friday. On Saturday, I called what appeared to be historically the best customer of this line. I had barely unpacked the entire line before I stuffed the fabric samples into a suitcase. I visited my first customer yesterday, a customer that I had previously never met. I hit the equivalent of a homerun in my first at bat. The order placed by this customer was huge. I sent the order in to the company, and the folks that hired me were somewhat impressed.  Basically, I had hit a homerun on my first at bat.  Still, in the future, I hope to hit plenty of singles, doubles and triples and occasionally a few more homers.

Why not make a baseball analogy today?  Pitchers and Catchers are starting to report to Spring Training this week! A sure sign that spring is on the way - an even more reliable harbinger of things to come than a chipmunk or otter or whatever the critter is that either does see on not see his shadow on February 2nd! Oh, I guess it is a groundhog, since the the day is called Groundhogs Day!
