Yesterday I had another opportunity to express my gratitude to God. I was driving from Michigan City, Indiana to Mason, Ohio. Approximately 20 miles north of Lafayette, Indiana on Interstate 65 my tire pressure indicator light lit up. I pulled off to the side of the road to inspect my tires. The left rear tire appeared that it could use some air - but I did not have a flat tire, so I was able to drive on. Once I arrived in Lafayette, I thought that I should put some air into my back rear tire. I didn't even have any quarters in my possession to pay for the air at the service station. I started thinking that if I had an actual flat, it might be better to have someone look at it immediately. I used my phone to discover that the nearest Firestone retail store was just 3 miles away. I had purchased my tires from a Firestone store, so my tires are under warranty and the warranty is honored at all of their stores around the country. I arrived at the Firestone store and I was told the wait would be at least 2 hours. The helpful person behind the counter offered to fill my tire with air. By the time he filled the tire, the pressure within the tire had dropped to 8 lbs. This proved beyond all doubt that there was a problem. I left the the car in the care in the capable hands of the Firestone technicians and took a walk to enjoy a long casual lunch at Panera Bread. Two and one half hours later, with one new tire, I was on my way.
I do need to thank God for seeing to it that my tire problems occurred near a city with a Firestone dealership. I do need to thank God for seeing to it that the Firestone store was open when my problem occurred. I need to thank God the expense to get road ready again was only $40.00. The thing is, I do thank God for making my ordeal much easier than it could have been. Still I have a question for God. Couldn't you have carefully guided my car away from the piece of metal that somehow pierced my sidewall? I know, I know....it does not work that way... So, let me just say, "Thank you."
