REASONS WHY IT IS HARD TO LOSE WEIGHT BY EXERCISING

It is definitely true that it is difficult (nearly impossible) to lose weight only by exercising. One hour of exercise can quickly be 'erased' by a small bag of M&M's. The formula for losing weight is formed by two things: diet and exercise. Their importance are in very unequal quantities. Without any empirical evidence, I would surmise that the importance of changing one's diet is 90% of the solution and exercise, while important, is only 10% of the solution to the problem. Exercise clearly has its own benefits. The 'high' that one feels during and after an exercise session is real. It must be, because on the rare days that I skip exercising, I don't feel so good. Perhaps these are just the responses of an addict. If so, there are worse things to be addicted to.  I should know. I am addicted to some of these malevolent things. And most of them are involving nothing more immoral or illegal than chocolate.  Another reason that it is difficult to lose weight with exercise is that one who exercises might be expected to have an increased need for more food. Combined with the need for more food (fuel) is the self-approval one gives oneself for over indulging as reward for exercising. I know this going in, and still I allow myself these extra indulgences. Nevertheless, every day I monitor my behavior so that I don't get too far out of control. It is never easy. I expect that it never will be easy. Who said life is easy?
